RDM/DRK is a joke. We all remember Aphrasia. The only purpose for a RDM/DRK in a PT is for stun. In all else, they're just a waste of a party slot.

well for a party, yea that combo would be very situational. However, good for soloing just because you can kill things faster and blah blah blah

But yea howbout we talk about RDM/PLD? since updates, PLD got shiled mastery and auto-refresh, making it a rather good subjob for rdm

Anything not /NIN is underrated. Its really kind of sad how many jobs are forced into confinement of this sub. Its also really sad how NIN has been forced into a tanking role. I can remember partying with NINs back in the day and they were excellent DD and enfeeblers when allowed to be in that role.

So I guess my final answer is any non /NIN sub or a DD/Enfeebling Ninja.

You have no idea how much I want to be in a party with one or two ninja who ONLY deal damage and enfeeble. It would make me shake in my little white mage booties with happy tears to be able to see this class used for more than just one type of ninjutsu.

My ninja is only seven and I have wanted to raise it higher but I don't have the ability to always be a tank. I really want to develop my ninja for what it is supposed to be. It certainly is an alluring dark side to go /NIN though...

I want to know what are some good subs (other than ninja) to use with RNG. Something perhaps that isn't considered often? I think I remember someone saying that RNG/WAR is pretty tough. What about RNG/SAM? I think that would be a pretty intense combo.

Let's consider HMN scene.

RNG/WAR - You will die before the fight starts.
RNG/SAM - The fight ends before you make it into the alliance.

You know... ever heard of Blink Headband? Anyway...

-Rng/war doesn't die that fast, you just need to be careful, hold back a bit and let the tank secure Hate.

-Rng/Sam isn't too bad either. True, Meditate isn't as good as a real Sam and /Sam doesn't get as many Store TP trait, but every bit of TP helps to make more SC which equal in more Magic Burst from the Blm.

Yeah I thought it would be a good support job because of the extra TP from samurai not to mention the ability to use third eye so you don't die as quickly. =P

I just know there has to be something better than ninja as a ranger sub. Even thief, yaknow?

Now that folks have gotten a chance to fool around on the new jobs, I was wondering if you have tried, seen, experienced, or thought of job combinations that involve PUPs, BLUs, or CORs?

As to the whole RDM/DRK = good or bad who really cares honestly a good RDM could sub pretty much anything they want and still do the usual duties of a RDM. I will say I will take a well equipped RDM/DRK over any other RDM for paralyze, Absorb MND > Paralyze is just so sweet to me as a NIN. Also later on I must say that RDM/DRK have the best Savage Blades I've ever seen pulled off without really hurting themselves. And not remembering mer for shame phyree then again maybe you didn't know after all she's /anon 99% of the time.

In all a PLD is a better DD then RDM/DRK so I will stand by my firm opinion that the only use of RDM/DRK is at 74/75 for Chainspell Stun.

This I find extremely hard to believe and thus far have never seen proven but then again you may be basing this statement on the RDM/DRK you saw which wasn't really trying to do best Damage, a RDM who doesn't nuke when trying to do damage is just sad. But that's IMO and only based upon what I've seen RDM/DRKs do in and out of EXP.

Also one of my favorites to date for odd/frowned combos was RDM/NIN with -STR/ATK and Hornetneedle/Beestinger. Haste + En spell and they were doing a lot of damage without feeding the mob TP due to their 0 natural damage. Sure they could nuke for more damage in one go but that uses MP and gives the mob some TP and definitely is not impressive in the least.

Another Favorite is seeing MNK/DRK pull off Soul Eater > Asuran Fists or SE > Hundred Fists, you thought they ripped hate before just wait. They die real quick but its fun to watch and nice damage.

Not seeing WAR/MNK or WAR/THFs makes me very sad. But then again seeing a WAR with a Great Axe in exp pt past 50 is more of a myth now-a-days.

Also one that I've only watched solo and never seen grouped is WHM/NIN at 74/75 its just so mean in KRT I could see this working as another Burn PT i mean Hexa Strikes, Holy, Banish III it just screams fun burn and looks like decent exp at least, granted its more MP heavy but a BRD and RDM or COR adds limitless MP well almost.

For RNG best DD is /WAR. most all RNGs go /NIN for 1 reason alone Utsusemi. Yes the off hand RACC weapons are nice but definitely not needed especially if you use sushi. A RNG can pull hate easy enough due to the damage they do and /WAR just helps them do even more.

Sorry Merodi, since I don't see you around much it was a bit of a out-of-sight-out-of-mind deal. ^_^;; But that is all the better for you since you are darn near the original RDM/DRK! Come offa /anon more. We don't talk a lot and I've known you since I first started playing! Haha, but I guess that kinda detracts from this post.

So how about those /PUP/s, /COR/s, and /BLU/s? Hehehe.

I can say it is a lot of fun compared to tanking. I went all-out DD in a party in Uleguerand Range on Nival Raptors with another Ninja tanking. It didn't take much to pull hate from the other Ninja off my katana hits alone. In fact, I parsed about 102 extra damage over the dark knight, and contributed 28% of the damage output. I nearly doubled the Ranger's damage, outdid the other ninja by 450 points and not even going to put down the poor Black mage.

Although I think the Ranger felt he had to hold back because of the Evasion Ninja's problem with holding hate. The Dark Knight also waited until the other Ninja and I used our :jins so he wouldn't pull hate. So maybe I didn't parse all that higher due to circumstances, but it felt pretty good regardless.

I've always thought that BSTs were underrated in parties. I have only ever once been in a party with one and that was over a year ago. A lot of people are concerned about XP loss but I don't think there is a penalty for summoned beasts as there is for charmed ones. I think that they would make really powerful allies, especially if they don't have to sub white mage and can wail on the mob next to his/her pet!

For some clarification:

EXP awarded to the party is based off the highest level in the party. If a party of one LV12 and the rest LV10s defeats a mob, the LV12 is what affects the EXP awarded to everyone. In addition to this, the LV10s get an EXP cut due to being lower level than the highest level. The cut is almost a direct proportion of (currentLevel)/(highestLevel), meaning that in this case the LV10s would get 10/12ths of the EXP that the LV12 would get. This is a severe cut for a 2 level difference, but as you reach higher levels, it makes less and less of an impact on EXP (assuming it's not hampering your ability to defeat the mobs).

A BST pet is essentially a temporary party member, meaning that if it's the highest level in the party, it can still influence the EXP everyone else gets. Consider the same party above, and say that the LV12 is a BST. Say that he charms a LV13 pet, and they defeat a mob with it. LV13 is now considered to be the highest level party member, so EXP is reduced, including the EXP that the LV12 gets. If the BST doesn't get rid of his pet somehow before the fight ends, he still gets the additional 30% EXP cut on top of that. (Nobody except the BST will ever receive this cut.)

Jug pets can never exceed the BST's level, so there is never any worry in a jug pet becoming the highest member of a party. Before, they used to also give the same 30% EXP cut to the BST if they were still alive after battle, but the big BST patch/"nerf" from way back when (December?) allowed jug pets to not impose any EXP penalties at all from being left out.

Hope that clarifies things a bit.

As for the new jobs being used as subs, /BLU is an excellent option for situations where you have to tank something and holding hate is not an issue. Cocoon is extremely powerful: 10 MP for a 1 minute massive defense boost. If you want an actual combo people might PT with, consider WAR/BLU. Heard tons of good stuff about this combo, especially at low levels. At mid-levels it can pretty much negate the defense loss from Berserk, which might allow you to keep Berserk up even in a tanking situation, allowing you to do better damage and hold more hate. I don't know about high levels, most WARs go /NIN by that point >_>

I've heard RDM/BLU can also be an absolute machine for soloing stuff without blink tanking it as /NIN. Protect + Stoneskin + Phalanx + Cocoon all together is an extremely potent defense.

By all accounts DRG/BLU is a soloing powerhouse. Cant wait to try it.

As for underrated combos:

WAR/MNK
SAM/WAR
RNG/WAR
DRG/anything ;p

Nah you just cant, pld arent made of DD like Warrior.

You can try DD as pld and you can do dmg.. I dont doubt that. But you can not outdmg a war.

I have both pld and war. My pld DD gears are pretty pimp, but still no where close to my aveage war.

Actually I have to agree with Rassen in that DRG/BLU is powerful. To tie it back with the original instigatrix to this post, Deedlitchan, I have seen her in action as that combo and it does indeed prove to be effective.

I'd be ineterested to learn a little bit more about NIN/DRK and what about WAR/WHM?

I don't see too much about /COR/s. Do you think they'd be good with RNG sub? What about a BRD/COR? Or RDM/COR?

I've heard even less than that about /PUP/s. Are they a solo class? I heard someone say they are "the new dragoon" (in that they don't get PT invites) but if they are anything like DRGs then they must be melee powerhouses. I see a lot of PUP/MNKs but what about PUP/WAR?

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but NIN/DRK is mainly for whoring attack, Souleater for Bladejin, and Stunning(Whirl of rage). Also a good tank or so I hear, since Stun gives fair amounts of hate.

WAR/WHM is mainly used as a support tank for PLD's on wyrms in end game. Also a popular job combination for nubs who think it'll help them become a better PLD, but in reality it does nothing but gimp our lowbie pt's. :/

Haha, Rasen your siggy got me thinking "blue mage n00b" sounds like "Blue Man Group". I can just see a group of three blue mages in AF gear (sub brd of course!) going around making rhythmic music hahaha.

Most blue mages appear to be going /nin or /whm. I generally go /war for tanking, and when I don't feel like doing that, there's /drk or /drg available for me to use.
