Xodious here. Been playing since about one day after the American release, lol, and here's a bit of a dramatic story on getting Final Fantasy XI.

I'm on my way home from school on the bus, writing down possible names for my character;

Xantious.....Xandious.....XODIOUS!

I tracked my packed for a week, and I was to get it one day after the release date. No big deal. Paid an extra $12 to get it shipped faster, so it's all good. My stop finally rolls around, and I sprint to my house....but no package on the door step? Instead, I find a little tag from FedEx, saying that they couldn't leave it on the doorstep, due to we were first-time shippers for them. I burst the door open and called their help line, and by goodness, they have a shipping office not 30 miles from where I live (the city is also where I go to school). So my dad gets home, and I told him the dillema, and he drove me up to Franklin (the city). He's all happy, while I'm having a mental breakdown for the most anticipated game of my life...

So we get to the office at about 5:00, and the lady at the front desk said "Well, our shipper will be out for a while, and there is no gurantee we can get you your package tonight, but I will call him and see what I can do." This crushed me. So I sat and waited in the lobby for a while....which turned to minutes....which eventually turned out to be 2 hours...

7:00 rolls around, and the lady motions for me to come over. I go over, expecting the worst, and in my great pleasure, she hands me a package....which was indeed Final Fantasy XI...

lol A little story on how I got the actual game. NOW, I'm a lvl 71 Samurai and leveled alot of other jobs so it's all worth it. Am I leaving anytime soon? NO WAY! :D :D

I've been here since the first week of NA release, so this is my third Halloween festival. I was very confused by all the NPCs running around in costume. I was confused by a lot of things, come to think of it... I started on Odin and ended up moving to Bismarck, where a friend of mine allegedly played, though I never once saw him there. When I was still on Odin, as a level 14 MNK from San D'oria, I convinced a level 24 WAR friend that Windurst could be found on the other side of Jugner Forest, which I deduced by looking at maps of Vana'diel, and that he needed to take me there. We made it all the way across La Theine with a few close calls, only to realize as soon as we zoned into Jugner that it was not, in fact, any place we wanted to be at all at our level.

I also have a story about buying FFXI. When I went to CompUSA to buy it, the clerk, in an attempt to either make conversation or get my phone number, asked if I was buying it for my boyfriend. I laughed in his face and informed him that there were, in fact, female gamers, and I hadn't missed an FF since VII. When I came back to buy FFX-2 not too much later, he asked me the exact same question.

We do exist. I swear.

I got the game the day it was released.

my first day's mistake....

assuming that the guards were actual guards, not there just for display.

I still think it's moronic that they won't budge when a newbie citizen gets slaughtered by an orc. And that said orcs won't touch em.

been playing since NA PC release.

i tried to use the mouse with the game for like a week.

i didnt know how to check mobs till like level 15. the game was pissing me off a great deal because i couldn't understand how come i completely tear apart a bird, and then i got a little further down the road and would get my **** handed to me by are bird that looked exactly the same.

i threw away beastman seals because i couldn't npc sell them; till like level 25, then someone finally told me what they where for T_T

didn't know how to auto sort till i was level 13. to make money id farm cyrstals, but id have to go back to town to sell them after i got 10 crystals and random junk, because my inv was full (i npced everything, didn't understand how the AH worked.

didn't know there was an AH in port jeuno till level 50s >.>

Actually started this game back in Feb of 2004.

Early memories... lets see >.>;

Took me 10 mins to figure out how to take my first steps... (wtf, a,s,d,w isn't working??!?!).

Running around Windurst and talking to just about every NPC and getting quests which I had no clue about... then getting a quest to grow something and looking in the AH for "Feeding Crystals" and getting frustrated because I couldn't find them >.<

Attempting windurst mission 1-2 and being invited to one of my first parties. During the mission accidently engaged auto-target on a party member and couldn't disengage to save my life... all the while typing in /p HELP!!! WHAT DO I DO???? OPEN THE DOOR FOR ME PLEASE!!!!!.

On those same lines...
- Accidently hitting "/" and wondering why I couldn't run anymore.
- Having to stop running everytime I wanted to talk with someone because I didn't know there was a /follow or auto-run feature.

Talking with others and wondering wtf is "^^" and why do they type that after almost everything they say?

Getting excited over drops of 'pot of honey' because at that time it was one of the few items I'd get that sold to an npc for 100+ gil >.>

Forming a party with another lvl 9 or 10'ish Taru thinking we could do a supply run / outpost quest to Derfland and having no clue how to get there ^^;

Been playing for about a year and a half.

The quick reference card (PC) didn't have the keys to move listed, so I was hitting every key to see what it did. For some reason I didn't try the numeric keypad though.

Didn't know how to logout.

Got lost in Windy.

No idea how many beastmen seals I dropped.

Enjoyed having the music on all the time.

Got my first invite to a party in the maze and replied "Sorry I really need the EXP points"

Map shows other members of your party? Yeah right, where? (Didn't learn how to do that until LV18.)

And my highest job is still only 58 after all this time.

Played since Dec. 2003, but just quit last month. >.<

I remember thinking I was going to solo my way to 75. I had no idea what a party was and I hated the thought of joining one.

All those beastmen seals I threw away.....the shame!! hehe

I started two weeks after release because ebgames didn't have it yet.

I started as Sheek the elv female warrior stopped remade as Shinoda.

It took me 3 days to learn how to move. I was jamming on the keyboard completely ignoring the mouse (default config)

/laughed at my Galka friend who ran really slow from mobs. we thought that galka could not escape mobs becaue they were so slow, evlaan always looked like they were about to fall when they run, and taru were the equivilant of the flash.

Got mine a few days after the PS2 release. Highest job is 43...

Like most people, I dropped seals, didn't sort my inventory, whats an AH?, etc.

When in my first party in Qufim, I was lvling my thf, therefore I was the puller. We had a worm agro after I started the pull and I didn't realize that it was my responsiblity to zone the mob I had just pulled. Someone died as a result. I felt bad so I tried to use a scroll or reraise, that I had just bought with cp, to try to raise the dead player. All I got was a few "wtf"'s.

I also thought that being a thf/rdm would be the greatest thing in the game. At the time, I didn't know what Trick Attack was.

Been playing since day one of NA PC release. Met alot of ppl and seen alot of ppl come and go over time, learned alot and forgotten alot. I remember tossing hundreds of Beastmen Seals just because I couldn't npc sell em and who wanted something you couldn't make money off of anyway when you could sell your unsorted crystals to the npcs for 7+ gil each lol. Oh well, thousands of seals and crsytals later I still have new players randomly ask me the same questions I once was too afraid to ask anyone myself lol. Bought my first good axe from Selbina for 17k, which by the way took a ton of npc sells to make hehe before I finally realized there was something called the Auction House which sold the same friggin axe for like 5k lol. And by the way gameslave where the heck are ya man? Get back so we can skill up that GS of yours lol.

Didnt play beta but got the game on the first day of NA PC release.

Memorable NooB moments:

1. Selling everything on the AH for 1 gil cause i didnt understand how it worked :s (Getting nasty tells from some guy named Dragonsomething cause i was ruining his crystal market)

2. Engaging my first mob and dying horribly at lvl 1 (Spider in Khorroloka tunnel)

3. Meeting my first friend in game then him going to another server the next day.

4. My first trip to windy at lvl 10 with Kerai.

5. Summoning the Sea horror in /em and it killing everybody.

6. Tossing beast seals cause i had no clue what the hell they were.

7. Remember going threw the dunes without a power leveler :D (killing rabbits :p)

8. How hard AF was to get before having high lvl help.

9. How cool it was to accept a party invite back then.

10. didnt know what a macro was until lvl 23

11. Meeting Mamichuu.

12. Breaking 100k :o

13. Breaking 1 mil :O

14. Buying olive oil in windy for 14 gil and selling it in Stok for 200 Gil each : (that was crazy money back then)

Original PS2 Beta Tester..

Good thing:
Achilleon gave me 10k @ start, never forget that

Bad thing:
6. Tossing beast seals cause i had no clue what the hell they were.

Nother overall thing I am somewhat reminded of, every time I travel to Bastok, I remember the PS2 beta days.. oh the horror! Glad I can travel other places now ^^

Been playing since PS2 beta test...

n00b moments:

1)Beating a Tremmor Ram in an alliance of 18 @ Lv15 and thinking I was the ****.
2)I used to throw away all beastmen's seals, they seemed useless.
3)Traded silks to Mithra NPC for the quest that gives the title Cralwer Culler.
4)Melee RDM(Even though everyone thought I was good) :D
5)Thought DRK/WHM was an awesome combo.
6)When they finally let 40+ PCs get Zilart content access I unlocked NIN and didn't get any ninjutsu except the 4 you can buy in the Tenshodo shop in Jeuno.
7)1st day playing I ran outside San'doria and saw another guy and asked him where I could buy weapons and armor... not reailzing that a)I already had a weapon and b)I ran right by the armor shop while exploring the city.
8)Choosing Hume during beta!(j/k) :D

I'm sure I did other stupid/noobish stuff... since there seem to be quite a few beta testers on here. If you knew the Hume RDM Tenshodo, or the Galka WAR Holyknight, give me a PM! (Even though I had like 10 chars in beta, those were the ones I mostly used)

I started playing the day after the NA PC release, but I've been on Bismarck since December 2003. I had a character on Ramuh for about a month before I decided to make a new one; and here I am today.

Notable n00b accomplishment: Soloing subjobless White Mage to 15 in La Theine (duoing very little from time to time).

Don't you have like every piece of equipment by now? What keeps you in the game?

Hey! I'm fighting in Rochester NY this weekend.. No pads... No gloves... How goes the competitions?

Mistakes I've made? Ha! I read the instructions before I played.

Actually, I did used to run around the mob because I thought it increased my evasion. And it took me quite a while to figure out how to sort my inventory. I also soloed to 18 because I didn't understand grouping.

I don't think I can ever quit.
