i read through most of that and saw absolutely no facts or data supporting an F rating.

the closest thing was:

11 Agreeing to perform according to their contract
0 Refusing to make an adjustment
6 Refuse to adjust, relying on terms of agreement
13 Unanswered
14 Unassigned

so thats 44 total complaints out of millions of subscribers and over 3 years? Am i just missing something on that site or was there just a general lack of data to backup the rating.

Not that I use the BBB to determine anything.

**Note, the use of the word "You" is not directed at anyone specifically in the rant below**

Square is getting a raw deal in my opinion. Don't like FFXI? Don't like the service? Got screwed over? Go play something else.

I've been playing this game since Beta and I've yet to experience something that is a "common complaint" on these boards (ie: scammed, lost stuff from auction, and other game glitches).

I, for one, am perfectly happy with this game. Yes it sucks that everything is costly in game and yes it sucks that servers are down some times but you know what? Nobody is holding a gun to your head to play. You are here ******** about it because you obivously enjoy the game enough to get this riled up.

I can understand that the maintenance is a necessary evil, especially when I only have a day or two during the week to play and so if maintenance or a ddos attack is occuring during that time I'm screwed for the week. It shows their dedication to constantly improving and developing this game, and is something we pay for.

I guess this rambling rant is over, am I suprised they have an F rating with the BBB? Not really, but it's very disappointing to see.

The rating itself is vague, and I'll agree with you on that Tsetsuo. And I also think its wrong to judge them based on just a few complaint responses.

However, from a business perspective, I do think that the "F" rating is deserved. Is it just me, or does there always seem to be some 3rd party attacks that end up shutting down SE's servers at least once a week or so? Unfortunately for SE, customer satisfaction is what this rating is based on and I'm not surprised that the BBB was fairly dissappointed.

They don't care that SE is serving over a half million customers a day, so I honestly am not going to care about their one-dimensional rating.

Tsetsuo has it right. I have a small business with about 900 or so clients. Out of my 900 clients, maybe 15-20 each year have some sort of issue or disagreement.

For a company to have millions of clients and only 44 registered complaints mean absolutely nothing at all. In fact, it means the company is doing something right...very right in fact. Numbers like that should be applauded, not given a 'F' rating....

Besides, most BBB's are becoming corporate and basically require a yearly fee to be eligble to report how many clients they may or may not serve. The companies that dont join just get lovely ratings like this one, without any mention of how many good things are being done.

Drow^^

Even with all the server time that is down...take that limited number of down time hours and put it against the uptime hours. They run a real time 24/7 game that is up 99.99% of the time.

So as far as attacks and other downtime, even if it conflicts with someones play time, I feel that the downtime is not an issue that can be made in an arguement about whether or not SE is a good company.

i have had complaints, have had friends that have had complaints, and know of others that have had complaints against square* for their lack of customer service.

for one they dont/didnt have a 1-800 number to call them,

two, when you do contact them they put you on hold forever

three, have you ever heard of any action that sony has taken to really hinder the gil sellers (not their market, because if they dont go after emperor they go after others)

i have had some suspected gil sellers tell me that they have stolen accounts before, named who they stole and sony didnt even wanna look through my chat logs.

i have personally waited 3 hours for a gm once, if people do actually get trained or something, then square* wont ever catch them in the act (which is how they say they can only take action against trainers)

the only thing that square* has done for us is give us the finger and tell us that if we dont play their game then they really dont care,... even if this is the best mmorpg out there even with the complaints (imho)

That may because Sony isn't legally required... or allowed.. to do anything in a Square Enix game. >_>

I put no faith in this rating at all (being that it has a date of 2/21/02). Square Enix CO. LTD. became a company in April 2003. And check out this link for further proof that this has no bearing on the company at all

http://www.square-enix.com/jp/company/e/history/

This isn't actually about Square Enix CO. LTD. at all - check the address. This is just a seperate company to represent their intrests in the US.

square usa and square jp are 2 seperate companies within squarenix...

square usa deals with converting and updating jp games for the us market, and square jp does the same for the japanese market

so yes, square usa should have a seperate address, and they should worry about how their american market is being represented considering its a big chunk of their overall market.

The BBB is really funky when it comes to there reviews and ratings. From looking at the other reviews, it seems the ratings are more affected by unanswered complaints then anything else. If you look at IGE, they have an F rating, but the only thing listed is two un-answered complaints. If you look at Blizzard's, they have a ton of complaints compared to SE and IGE, but no un-answered, hence the B rating. Really not the best way to do a rating in my opinion, but oh well.

well maybe thats because if you dont deal with the problems it means you dont give a ****. why should you get a good rating if you just dont ******* care? now if you get complaints and you go and see whats up and fix what you can good at least youre doing something whether its right or wrong. maybe if SE gave more of a **** about their customers to fix all their problems and not just their servers they would have a better rating you think? or am i just being stupid and should shut up now?

Studies on complaint reporting have shown that the bulk of complaints comes from a very small group of people reporting lots of times.

I wonder how many of those complaints involved things like the adjustments to fishing, NM camping, ranged attacks and utsusemi shadows... and of the remaining, how many involve connection problems due to DDOS attacks and server maintenance...

I think I'm still level 64 Bard, almost 65...I haven't played the game in quite some time.

I have a lot of school stuff going on this week, I had 2 exams last week and 3 exams this week, one of which I am not prepared for in the slightest.

However, I shall try to get on this weekend because as far as I know I'm not working and have nothing going on, if you're still my level then we shall party =)

Let's look at some things in this report, when considering how accurate it really is.

The info... company name and address are for a SUBSIDIARY of SE, not SE itself. SE is a Japanese company...
Quote:
Address: 6060 Center Drive Suite 100
Los Angeles, CA 90045-8835

This is just an office I believe..

This, however...
Quote:
Headquarters

Shinjuku Bunka Quint Bldg. 3-22-7 Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku,Tokyo 151-8544, Japan

is where the actual company is.

Also...
Quote:
Nature of Business:

This company's business is providing assistance with video games.

Funny, I thought they designed/produced video games, and probably marketed and distributed on their own as well.

Yeah, very accurate report.

I've read it more closely, and these are not all bad factors.

11 Agreeing to perform according to their contract
6 Refuse to adjust, relying on terms of agreement

These are complaints that were either handled in the favor of the complainor (credit card double billing?) or not (account ban due to 3rd party software use ingame like a windower)
