Dude, that maintence was performed last Sunday.

Servers are up and will be up tonight. That was just a news flash trying to scare people that use 3rd pt programs.

...you scared me! I thought I wasn't going to get to play tonight!
#3 Sep 09 2005 at 12:19 PM Rating: Decent
SRY. I was reffering to the 600 ppl that got banned or terminated who will not get to play tonight. I know the maint was last sunday I guess I said it wrong in my original post. Please forgive me! I just know ppl that were upset bc they had a maint last weekend.

Don't say the "W" word while in game and you should be fine, as far as I know they don't have a way of telling.

However, I enjoy seeing the full 19" of my monitor displaying the FFXI goodness so I usually don't use it. TPparty isn't that handy for a WHM anyway Smiley: grin and if I want to dual-box I just fire up the PS2 sitting next to me (my bro just gave me his Monster S-vid cables and if you haven't tried a PS2 with these you really should).

People who are found using a Windower (usually by a player telling a GM you said you were using one), will have problems. And these problems will vary, based on which GM you deal with ... Usually, it's a 3-4 days suspension of the account, but GMs have the right to terminate your account if you're using any TParty software, Windower included.

I read a chat log showing someone dealing with a GM because he was found using a windower, and from what the GM said, I think they're taking severe actions against the windower because of its features, not only because it allows the game to be runned windowed. Just one example : Without the windower, you don't see the Party Members' TPs. The game was made in that way, and people who don't have the windower don't see PM's TPs. And so it makes the game easier for some people. And making the game easier with a 3rd party program is basically "cheating". I believe if the windower was only a simple program which allowed the game to be runned windowed, without adding features, they wouldn't take such actions against it, although they'd still do (windowed programs make hacking easier).

As Wintaru said, don't tell anyone you're using one if you don't want any problems. If you're caught using a windower for whatever reason, do not argue with the GM and be patient with him/her (I saw too many people making pointless arguments with GMs, increasing their amount of days of suspension ...). And be aware that your account will be marked as "3rd-party program user" or whatever, so if you're caught again, you'll be in a bad situation.

This is really kind of OT but it still bugs me.
I hate the fact that I can't minimize FF. I can't stand it.
If I could minimize it, when I forget to turn off something that has a notify function, instead of FF crashing and burning, the window would just hang out in the back ground until I minimized/logged out of FF. Being able to minimize and open IE to check something online would be great. My PS2 is in another room (with no software, I have the new smaller one) and I don't have another copy of FF.

My buddy was playing WoW, heard the ding of MSN messenger over the game music, minimized and chatted with a friend for a minute.

There are just so many things you could on the fly if you could minize FF...

The first rule of using windower: Don't talk about windower.
The second rule of using windower: Don't talk about windower.

Plain and simple, The only way they can tell if you are using it, is if you talk about it in game since they can view chat logs. That is the ONLY way for them to tell since windower does not send a signal out from your computer. If they tell you they found out by using a GM tool or something like that, they are *********** you. It would be illegal for them to do that.

In our LS, we refer to windower as "Voldower," or "The program that must not be named."

Just like my friend use to say: " you can do what ever you want , as long as you dont get caught!"

But I dont care about all the features. My problem is to have to /pol every time I receive a messages on MSN or when I need to check on allakhazam site for directions or anything like that.

Anyway.. thanks for the info . I may try that W someday... please dont tell anyone :P lol

Oh they can, they just wouldn't dare, because it's illegal.

About simply being windowed, that's a problem, because SE decided it'd be a good idea to put all the data client-side. While the program is windowed, you have access to the data files and with the right know-how and tools, you can alter the game while playing it. If they could engineer their own windower that would "lock" that folder while playing then they could release that to the general public. But considering we're still using an antiquated version update method, don't hold your breaths.

The best advice for not getting caught has already been mentioned: say nothing. For those of you here who have already said you use one, I highly suggest you remove that confession.

Mum's the word.

It's very simple...

They don't want you using a windower...

Because...

You just might...

Be able to...

Hack the program...

People use windowers...

To hack the game...

Most of them allow you to see things in game...

that gives you an advantage...

over the rest of your fellow gamers...

You know, allow you to cheat...

I know everyone of you are going to start karma bombing me...

is fine, but do know that if you can do things in a game that no one else can, from a program or a code....

You are a cheater...

I don't care if it is only seeing other peoples TP...

Before you downloaded it the game did not let you do it...

therefor you are cheating...

The reason SE does not want you to do this is clear...

It SAVES you from LOSING Final Fantasy XI due to...

Some asshat wanna be hacker...

If you would really rather be talking on MSN or some such program...

Then log out...

If you need a map...

Print it out...

If you get caught and banned...

don't cry...

You were warned...

I looked into using a (the) windower programme, but I just don't trust software downloaded from the web unless I know where it is coming from.

My soloution was to network an old machine and put in a KVM switch. Now I have my games computer running FF and a less grunty machine to brouse the web etc using the one keyboard, monitor and mouse. Nice and tidy and no rules broken.

With a couple of key presses I can flick over to check out a map, er.... I mean instant messenger...., and then come back to the game without droping out of fullscreen.

As annoying Mortimer`s post can be, he still made his point.

What ever we say, the "W" will always be cheating. but personnaly I dont care. All I care is the fun I have with the game while I play.

Of course, this kind of mentaly can bring more problems if people abuses and eventually scrap the game. Seeing the TP of party member is not something that can scrap the game but if someday someone finds a way to overthrown every rules in the game , this will be close to the end. There is a line between " a little easier to play " and " being God all mighty " . One can go without being seen , the other ruins the game for everyone.

Games are softwares... and will always be possible to hack.. if this game ends like Diablo 2 , (which I think is almost there because of the gilsselling and the prices going up like hell and the almost impossibility to claim an NM because of all the GS bots ) , they will give birth to another game just like this one (maybe better) which will be as fun and entertaining to play until someone break into it and hack it. Then they will get another one... and another ... etc.

Life is life.
That would be cool if everyone was honest and good in the world... but its not the case...
so we have no choice to live with it ; ; unfortunately

Yeah yeah yeah, I know it was annoying I was in a bad mood and tired when I wrote it.

Give a hommie a break I mean damn you people went out of your way to rate me down.

This was just a silly topic to me.

Again I apologise for being annoying and all.
#19 Sep 19 2005 at 8:04 AM Rating: Good
Just to clarify, I never rated you, up or down.

I merely siezed the chance to insert a little humor Smiley: grin

Personally, I don't enjoy the windower because with a wide screen monitor it's much harder to get the width reset to correct proportions. Not to mention I like to see it in full screen anyway, if I need to look something up I use one of the 2 other computers we have in the basement ^^

However, I would LOVE to see SE make some kind of timers pop up on the right side of the screen when you use a job ability, blood pact, spell, etc that counts down how much time is left until it can be used again. Something like the chat log but make it very small and put it in a corner or on the side somewhere.

Even just to have abilities and bloodpacts would be nice, right now I just have /recast {spellname} at the beginning of each of my spell macros so I can tell immediately how much time I have left to recast just by hitting the macro.

I'm suprised I'm still coherent.

Bad night last night, mom is sick (baby is fine) and I only got about 3 hours sleep last night. Nothing like watching the clock from 9pm to 1am, get up and feed the baby, fall asleep at 2am, alarm goes off at 4:30am Smiley: banghead

I actually got up at 9:45 and sat LFG as a 11 BRD in the Dunes with no invites for about an hour (leveled singing, wind, and string decently though) and finally said ***** it and went and laid back down.

Edit:

And to top it all off, after chatting with the folks over in the tech support forum, I'm fairly certain the power supply on my new case is faulty and causing random display failures. 8 minutes until I can call newegg and see wtf.

Don't be so sure on that, i picked up a normal case for my new PC and decided to use the included power supply. /sigh Had to replace the video card (2 times, once was RMA second time they said yea right its not our problem) the Motherboard and the RAM, as well as the power supply itself.

told ya man :P , get that thing out of your PC now before it really fries something.

I picked up the Antec neopower 480w

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103924

Totally worth it. May also want to consider a UPS too to make sure the voltage coming in is nice and clean.

Apparently it used to be ok to just use any old PSU but nowadays the power supply needs to be of a decent quality.
#24 Sep 19 2005 at 1:12 PM Rating: Good
Well no voltage spikes and it's holding steady at 11.625 on the 12v rail under load, so I'm stumped. Not sure where to go from here >.<
