My ways to make Gil -- Finally Revealed!Follow

This post goes out to everyone who has had difficulty making gil throughout their ffxi career. Fortunately I never had any real difficulties in obtaining such preciousness. Frankly, I'm getting tired of people wondering how I manage to get all my decent gear. ITS CALLED USING YER BRAIN STOOPID! Well anyway, with some research and ingenuity you too can make millions with barely any amount of work. And for the record I have spent a total of $0.00 dollars buying gil at any local internet gilseller store.

Old Method: Make ~120+K/hr making... LINEN CLOTHS!

Requirements:
-lvl 20ish clothcraft skill (higher the better of course)
-Delkfutt's Key and ability to slaughter Thunder elementals
-Earth crystals/Clusters
-A lot of inventory space
-Your nation to be first place
-Airship access
-**SECRET INGREDIENT** - simultaneous use of another character!

Ahhh the good ol' method that fueled my fortunes. Although I sold most of my stacks of Linens for roughly 30K I still managed to pull a decent profit outta it. Nowadays I think they run up to 40K/stack. In any case here's the plan:

1. With a big inventory go to Delkfutt's Tower and, with key in hand, go to top floor.
2. Figure out where 10+ Thunder elementals spawn when the weather appears.
3. Slaughter.

Once you've amassed a decent amount of Clusters:

4. Go to your nations airship shop and ensure your nation is in first place.
5. Talk to the airship merchants.
6. Buy many Flax Flowers for 225 gil each.
7. Start processing them into Linen threads to Linen cloths.

So if you do the math a stack of linen cloths will cost you 16200 gil. Sell it for ~40K or whatever it goes for. Make a profit. Enjoy.

Here's the kicker though. If you're doing this alone you will not make 120K+/hr. You will need another "factory worker" to come along. Anyone with the coveted PS2 and PC ffxi combo will benefit greatly from this as you will probably make 5-6 stacks and reap the rewards all to yourself. And yeah you can make the argument that farming for clusters bites in the /hr thing. So go buy them instead no biggie.

Most likely though you will go insane processing Linen cloths for hours on end. Luckily there's a better way to "farm".

New (Current) Method: Buy Low Sell HIGH! Unbelievable!!

Requirements:
-~350K gil
-ability to type in "/sh teleport-mea can I have it? 500g" in jeuno
-8 inventory slots
-10 or so minutes
-a normal RL job or school is recommended.

This method borrows from the "Bronze Ingot" trick aka "Arrowwood Lumber" trick aka "Saruta Cotton" trick aka..you get the deal. What is this "trick" exactly? Ever since I started FFXI like more than a year ago all I had to do to make easy money was wait until the Smithing guild opened at 8AM, buy a stack of Bronze Ingots for 144 gil per, and sell it at the AH for 4K. Bam. Morals? Well apparantly I'm not the only one that does this so we all follow the same set of rules.

Anyway fast forward much much later and wow Mhaura sells Steel Ingots!!! AK reports the price at 7K per ingot. Well, if you wait long enough the price will drop to the magic number of 3517. If you buy a stack then it would cost you ~42K.
When I first started this "trick" i sold a stack for 50K each. so an 8K profit times 8 = 64K of just running to Mhaura and buying the damn thing.

But prices has been rising. Up to 70K a stack at jeuno last I checked.

If you do the math you would be making a 28K profit per stack. Multiply that by 8 and gasp...200+K profit! I laughed at linkshell members who blew their weekends farming cuttings as I was able to pull this trick off twice in a 24 hr time period.

As for having a real life job, what I would do is park my character at the shop before I slept. When I wake up at 6:50 AM EST I would log in, buy the ingots at a (usually) low price, go to jeuno and sell em, and log off. Waking up early is recommended to buying these things.

Some sidenotes tho: Steel ingots may not sell as fast but don't lose hope! Also the recent updates sorta pushed the steel prices over the 9.5K limit it once had. What I mean is that when anyone would buy out the store the prices would rise dramatically the next day (The price would drop by 420 gil per vana diel day last time i checked). My friend reported that, instead of 9.5K, its now roughly 17K!! Oh well I probably did this trick like over 40 times before the price cap rose. But I still think its easy money if you happen to run across Mhaura and the 3517 steel ingots.

I'm sure there's tons of better ways than this to make gil. But, since you don't have to kill anything, don't need to rely on others, and it only takes up roughly 10+ minutes to make nearly a quarter million I can't think of anything easier.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So there you have it. My fancy gil-making secrets finally revealed. If you're wondering why I italicized certain phrases or even bothered to post this **** up its because I haven't been playing this game for more than a month and to sweeten the deal:

I'm leaving the game!

Nothing wrong with ffxi as I'm not bored of it at all but it just takes up too much damn time to do things. I would love to get all those fancy items but with my LS untimely death, awesome people leaving the game, and gil becoming useless in purchasing rare/ex stuff its time to bail out and save $14 a month. Well I hope my "I'm leaving the game" post-in-disguise was enjoyable. I'll see you all later.
