Hello! I am currently a 58 Red Mage and is having a hard time deciding what type of melee job to lvl atm because I need to take some time off of Red Mage. Also I kinda want a job that can farm well also because I am having a hard time farmin in Rolanberry with my 137 Sword skill(maybe thats why?) that I find seems like a chore to keep capped and a big hassle because I dont know where to skill up.
I know I will get tons of jobs listed here but that doesnt matter. Anyways heres what I have narrowed it down too.
I'm not much of a tank so PLD,NIN,WAR is out for me.
I am taking a break from lvling Mages as I wanna try something new.
I'm Open to suggestions and everything.

Samurai is fun, you can do alot self SC with meditate.
try monk or Beastmaster.
I would go with Nin (even though you said your not much of a tank) or Drk. The reason's for this is because you can sub these jobs to Rdm, while taking yourself a break.
/Nin: is good for solo'ing
/Drk: is great for end-game stuff.

Id say to go as THF
Th1 is really good for farming and flee is really useful.
I think its the best bet if you wanna have fun and have the best farming possibility = TH1
Thats my opinion. As a blm 60 I leveled THF at 28 for the exact reason than you ^^

Honestly id say give DRK a try.
You will be good at it as your enfeeble and dark magic skills should be fairly high already as a lvl 58 RDM. A good friend of mine is lvling a taru DRK right now and hes having a blast (of course hes been stuck being the set PT WHM for 60 or so lvls...so I imagine he has lots ofpent up rage to unleash upon Vana Diel).
I myself have been taking a break from my mage class (BLM) while farming for all of those HQ elemental staves (2/7 so far ;;) and Penitents rope (I have a enough seals to try this run twice if anyone needs a BLM to tag along on their run). Its been pretty fun so far,and its certainly been a nice change of pace. Plus everyone I talked to about it said it was a bad idea, and when people tell me it cant be done...well then that just winds me up for a full blown attempt to prove them wrong.
Well good luck at your second job choice! The great thing about melee jobs is you actually get to hear battle music. I wish SE would just let everyone in the pt hear the music once someone engages.
