Cha peoples I have recently come with an Ocean Stone off the AH for 300k which normally goes for 2.6mil :X
Not really sure who else to turn to on advice but I was wondering your oppinion on the situation.
At first I thought I just got lucky with someone who undercutted to sell first. but I recieved a /tell from the seller Trillium saying he placed it up for 2,555,555g . I am unsure if he was trying to sell fast or if he accidently placed it up for 255,555g instead of 2,555,555(which is my guess on what happened ><)
I dont know the player personaly.. was kind of hoping he was japanese <,< but when it comes to something I can use (most expensive gear on my whm are elemental staves) I really dont know what to say. This stuff never happens to me and I am still pretty speechless it happened.

If he actually contacts you, then it's up to you whether to give it back. Looking JUST at the 'yes and no' of the situation, you're not under any obligation to give the item back to the guy, or pay the other 2.3 mil (ouch). If your conscience bothers you, that's between you and your conscience; do what you feel you ought to, but personally I'm not judging you one way or the other irregardless.

Trillium didnt try to undercut anything. Iam her In-game husband and she put it up for 2.55mil. When the AH went haywire it sold it for 300k. Many people are shouting it did it to them as well.(Thanks SE) I know he's is under no obligation to give back and if she did try to undercut we wouldnt be talking. She did nothing wrong and worked many many hours to earn that money. Maybe someday it will happen to those who quickly say "Keep it, there fault". Goodluck Pikagreg whatever you decide.
Keep it, they knew their was a risk of it happening, it did, u scored. Enjoy.

I really dont know wht to say I am to shy to talk to them directly but between exp'in, school tomorrow, and SE bs idk what to say ; ;.
I agree with Sioux, I often see those types of posts, and all I have to say is that you're really nice and honest. Some would just have ran away and not answered the /tell ...
Since you're posting here, it's obliviously a problem with your conscience. And as Sioux said, you can do whatever you want with the item, it won't be "wrong".
A last thing ... It'd be highly surprising if the item was put for 2,555,555g and that a bet of 300k worked. If it was a known bug, there'd be a lot more cases. And if it is a bug that hardly ever happen, then it's up to the seller to send a mail to SE with the date and time, with a correct explanation of the problem, and they'll check if it was a bug or not.
If it wasn't a bug, either he/she was trying to avoid Jeuno's tax, so you're really safe to keep the item, or either he/she made a mistake, then it's up to you to give the item back in exchange of your gil. I've seen people selling the item back to the original owner for half the price, you could do it if you're really fighting with your conscience.
So far, we have 3 possibilities :
- It's a bug. It's up to the seller to fix the problem with SE, and then you're safe, IMO.
- The seller tried to cheat on Jeuno's tax, and then you're totally safe to keep the item.
- The seller made a mistake. There it's up to you to decide what you'll do. Keeping the item isn't wrong, giving it back isn't wrong neither. You also can't check if the seller says the truth ...
If I were you, I'd either keep the item or sell it back for half of the price, depending of the seller's behaviours with me. I think it's a good 50/50 deal ...

Hell I didn't realise it was actually something you could use. The way I can put myself in the situation better is to imagine it was a Scorp Harness.
Now I'd love one of those me, but I doubt I'll ever be able to afford one. If I managed to score one for 300k or w/e then yes (hang me, draw me, call me a fekkir) I'm gonna keep it and just hope that the person who sold it could take some solace in the fact that I actually bought it to use and not to resell for quick gil.

This probably was a mistake, it was the game's fault, not his. When the AH went haywire, things happened, such as this. A very simular thing happened to me about a month ago. I bought an O. Kote for 200k. This person put it on the AH for 200k on purpose, so he could save money. But, I gave it back for 300k.
The reason is this:

Hey, remember when a certain taru was trying to undercut the AH by selling himself astral rings for 800k but only putting them up for 1 gil each...

P.S. In response to the OP, I would say hold onto the item until the person who you purchased it from contacts you. Then you can decide what to do. If he/she makes no effort to contact you, then I wouldn't worry about anything. There have only been two times where I have undercut something for a large percentage of what it was worth at the time, and neither time was I ever contacted about it. (The two items were a Mythic Wand and Mithran Stone, I paid 1k for each back when they were both worth 20k.)
Just in case I ever am contacted however, I believe I took screenshots of the AH history of my purchase, you know, just for record keeping.
Also I have never, in my entire FFXI career, messed up an AH transaction. It only takes a few extra seconds to be dilligent and careful enough not to make a mistake when putting things up or purchasing things for sale.
P.P.S. Sioux isn't really a moron, shes a highly intellectual individual =:D.
