how NOT to be a BLM (True Story)Follow

One day last week after logging into the game, I recieved a string of kanji (sp?). I replied Experience Points Party Yes, Please. (auto-translator of course). To my luck I was invited into an all japanese manaburn party ranging in levels from 62-64. Our target was Boyada Tree Processionaires, and Darters near the lake where the Ancient Gobbue spawns.

At first glance the party looked good, all blm with the exception of me had full AF on and the rdm was subbing bard for added MP regen. (on a side note i do not know if any other rdm has thought of this, but in this case the rdm/brd combo did EXTREMELY well. Not as well as a full fledged bard would, but good nonetheless.) Then I noticed that 2 other blms were using the autotranslator, so the party was actually half japanese and half NA. Estat, a Bismark blm can verify these things as being true.

The other NA BLM is the one in question, and while he had full AF set, the rest of his gear was that of a lvl 10-20 blm. No real +INT gear, forget about the moldy earring, and just majorly gimped in any way possible without it showing on your screen. (she only had a dark staff btw, no other elemental staves)

Simple strategy for the party reall, rdm pulls with gravity>>>blm and rdm sleep mob >>> 3-2-1 countdown to freeze/burst, finish it off with a tier 3 spell.

This perticular BLM would stun/sleep pull mobs (with what must of been a crappy enfeebling skill) whenever she apparently felt threatened by non aggroing mobs.

She arbitrarily decided when she would cast the AM, before the countdown, or 5 seconds after everyone else had casted was the usual.

She also never healed anyone that may of needed it, and on one occation trained her mobs to us, and the party who arrived to share camp about 3 hours into this.

This blm almost single handedly caused an 8-10k xp/hr party into a 5-6k one. Be warned that even one fool in a party is more then you need.

So what have we learned from this rant children?

We have learned to take pride in our jobs and our gear, even if that means days of farming to be able to afford a single piece of gear.

We have learned that timing in this game, much like in life makes all the difference.

We have learned that even gimpy *** people and characters can still be 1 level higher then you, and it irks you to no end.

We have learned that Mikalai has a better then average ego, and when he is upset, he is an ***.

Could have been posted in the Players to Watch Out For thread. We don't need a separate thread for every bad player on Bismarck.

It's not much use here, there or any other thread since he forgot to include the BLM's name. Not to mention he already posted something identical to this on the BLM forums for no apparent reason.

and the lucky name of this black mage I should avoid is? :P

Probably going to be seeing more manaburns once I hit 60, so don't want to catch up to this person and then be disappointed.

(Yes, I am aware that Mikalai is the OP, because I know people will try to correct me.)

Yeah, who is this? I'm blm60 at the moment, it'd be nice to know who to avoid.

sadly, even a 60 BLM won't get a chance to play with this person as they are a leveling ***** much like myself. This topic was not meant to name anyone specific, because as recently stated there is a place for that. It's mearly a rant on how not to play a job.

You know, I still dont even have my AF pants or AF coat.

I have always been gimped(not so much now, I still need elemental torque and full set of elemental staves, and forget about HQ versions).

But you can ask anyone in a PT I have been in, my skills are capped and I don't suck.

Perhaps this person you speak of just genuinely sucked. But the fact they did not have 1337 gear doesnt really contribute to that level of suckyness.

I don't wanna drop 1.2 mil on a elemental torque (I prolly will eventually) but just b/c I don't have it doesn't mean I dont take pride in being a BLM.

Mika I have seen your char and you have top gear and prolly a lot of money. But just cuz you farmed your *** off doesn't mean others are willing to drop that much time into the game. They want to level and use new spells and such (that was my motivation anyway). Eventally better gear will always come along.

Hell I even went all the way though every PM mission without Sleepga 2 until I got to PM8-3 where I caved and bought it, to this day they lady wont give me the quest and I did all pre-reqs. Must be fame.../sigh

Time for me to fell like an idiot here.

I don't know if it is a local (NA) saying that I wouldn't normally hear or what, but I do see it on posts here alot.

Basicly I take it that it means "Great" or "The Best", but just what does 1337 mean?

Whenever I see it I always think "Firewire" first.

You'll hate me for teaching this but ah well...

1337 is so-called "1337speak", the practice of replacing letters with numbers and symbols. 1337 = leet.

You were probably better off not knowing, reading 1337sp34k makes my eyes hurt. @_@

While I am a firm believe of skill > gear, a person with the right skill and attitude AND gear will still outperform those who neglect their gear, even if they're the most knowledgable person in the game. Those who have decent (read: adequate) gear although it's not top-of-the-line elite gear can still do their jobs very well, but those who just wear garbage will still fall short. You don't need Scorpion Harness +1s or all HQ staves, but don't be using Copper Rings and Level 1 wands.

I farm my **** off, 62 Blm atm. I recently stopped leveling till I can resupply my gil pool.
I have quite a bit to get soon for a large sum of gil, I do hope to have a Vermy before I start up again (lvlin).
It isn't that hard to get gil, depending on what you farm (or for some grow).
I use all the staves and my AF. And its sad to be in a manaburn and being the only mithra in it out damageing the other 4 Taru's.
And I don't mean 10 or so points I mean 100~ points.
Some Blm's don't care about there gear (one Blm was wearing to of the +1 Int rings O.o)

Anyway don't ask me why I posted this, is this considered a rant?
Lmao.
Well... I guess point being there is bad Blm's and good Blm's (Gear not skill wise).

BLM just like any other job need to pay attention to their gear. wether you want the best of the best or just enough to get you competitively into texp pts is all the same. Any mob thats going to give decent exp will prolly be ITish for yout group which usually means if you wanna throw down your gonna need a boost.

But with BLM its give and take and the quality and style of the rest of the pt really does have a large impact on how to play a BLM "well". In some PT's youc an just drop bombs and make sure you get your MBs in and your fine, and in some pts you cant even cast a single spell tier II or higher without catching hate. Is variable. High lvl BLM i will say does start to grow a dependence on above quality gear to remain competitive against morelong standing BLM with whom you will be competing for PT space. This creates a pedigree on required gear. I feel this is the same for ALL classes that play this game. If you dont have gear just take a break and farm. Hell ive been on hiatus at 60 for almost two months farming and trying to get my gear where i want it before I get back int he saddle. Its just how the game works.
