Curious about HNM linkshells.Follow

#1 May 05 2005 at 2:06 PM Rating: Decent
Well, time has gone by; I've been playing this game about a year now, and hit level 60 last week.
At least two members of my linkshell have gone on to join HNM linkshells. It has long been a goal of mine to join one of these, and as I'm now cavorting around in full pimp gear, I know it's getting close to that time (at least once I've accomplished Sky access, which is a ways off yet).

I'm curious as to exactly HOW one goes about this. Are you invited by a current member? What, aside from Sky access, do these linkshells expect when you join them? Are members invited on a friendship basis, or on performance in a member's party?

For those of you in HNM linkshells, how did you get your invitation?

Most HNM Linkshells ask you to apply on their respective sites. Generally, unless your job is in high demand, they're pretty picky about who they let in. It's better if you have somebody in said shell refer you, or if you know several people in shell, you can use them as examples of your skill.

People will say that HNMLS recruit by skill, but....

That's one great big load of shit. HNMLS are all about favourites.

Flame me, rate me down, what-have-you. The better-liked you are in the game, the better odds you have of getting into a shell. The worse-liked you are, the less chance of it.

I can speak from experience on this.

Anyway, most HNM linkshells ask that you be at least 65 with sky access for a mage, 70 with sky for a melee. Most will quiz you on your dynamis progress, mission progress, et cetera.

But really, HNMLS are a waste of time.

you have to go apply Sioux. just ask around for LS like IRON, AD, Lunies, World Empire, Auroras, if you ask around you will find what you need, i dont have any of the Links off the top of my head, oh and most of them require that you only have 1 LS, and that be thier LS. I didnt join one for that main reason because i love my LS too much to just up and leave them..

IMHO, World Empire, and IRON are the 2 LS that i get along with best, i am friends with a few of the members, and i have been getting acquainted with some of the nicer members of AD.

But just so you know.. The end game stuff can get really boring after a while, i mean, i have been 75 for quite a while now, well not to long, but i have everything i want except for Zenith Gear and AF2, but that can wait till i build up my entire LS to be able to go do things like that.

But good luck finding a cool HNMLS, the opinions in this post only belong to me, and nobody else lol.

I believe this is what you are looking for.

Most HNM LS fill up rather fast and have some pre-requesits to apply. Usualy level 70+ and Sky access with appropriate sub jobs leveled.

Sometimes you can get in early if you have friends in the shell, or an outstanding reputation. Usualy the idea of "Applying" is a bit odd for a video game, but it also lets all the members of the LS see you are interested, and gives them a chance to comment before hand.

Good luck Sioux, see you around.

Research before applying. Make sure that what any of the HNMLS have to offer, is what you want. Make sure your schedule coincides with theirs. No sense in applying for a linkshell that does alot of events at a time you can't possibly make.

Talk to members already in the HNMLS, even if you don't know them. Unless they're an ***, I'm sure most people will take the time to chat.

The norm seems to be 70+ (with some excpetions for mage classes) and sky access is a must. Most of them frown upon people having multiple applications open at the different HNMLS. Only apply for one at a time. Don't treat it like you're applying for a job as that just looks like you will take the first/best offer you get.

It isn't necessary to have friends already in the HNMLS. Yeah, I'm sure it doesn't hurt but if they aren't looking for your specific job class, it really isn't going to matter who you know. I didn't know anyone at AD when I apped, I just knew they were looking for BLMs.

Maybe that's how YOUR linkshell works but not others. Ever hear about the trial period? Also, being better liked means you get along well with people and won't create drama and such. This is by no way saying that HNM linkshells play favorites. Actually, did you get turned down by one and assumed it was because of favortism? Most accept people on how well they get along with the LS and their skill. Maybe you lacked one or both of these traits.

Also, who the hell are World Empire? I have never seen them. Any names of who they are and what color of pearl they have? I know IRON, Bluesteal, and AD well since they're the most active from my point of view. I see Aurora every now and again.

world empire is up and coming. I see them all the time and I think their Pearl is red but I may be wrong. As for names, who cares? Like anyone remembers names anyway (unless you hate them). I don't know if anyone has mentioned Diamond but they're up and coming as well as the RenkeiDorkz whom I see Kingpopof trying to drive into sky.

Aurora is almost done with sky so, maybe you'll be able to remember us soon.

I might add that most of the Dorkz would run screaming from the "HNM LS" title :D (No offense to HNM LS's) We're more laid back but Kpp has set up some joint ventures for us to try some of the sky gods (Dorkz: 2 Genbu: 0) and it's been fun so far :D

It wasnt me!

Soiux from what I can tell HNMLS is similar to other LS with the difference being that where as in a normal LS you may be asked to go to some events in HNMLS you would be expected to go to some events and (maybe) requred to go to others.

I imagine that it is very similar to any other LS you would apply for wuth the exception of clearly defined rules and scope of activity would be very felt in an endgame driven LS.

BTW worldempire is bright red pearl. As far as their member content is concerned I know of two of them, and one is one of my longest standing FFXI friends (even though hes an old timer) and the other worldempire person ive had run ins with was a complete prick. I think that most LS are like that. There wil be different attitudes displayed by members of any LS.

I suggest you find some the players of the LS you wish to join and hang out with them. If you like them then go for it, if not look elsewhere (there are plenty of players).

(BTW as a side note: Sing I was following your links to application pages to take a look at the different HNMLS rules and what not and Intensity LS's forum that has the Application and/or whatever is USERNAME/PASSWORD only so I was unable to preveiw your application process. I didnt know if this was by design or not, but I would reccomend that you leave the portion of your LS forum dealing with recruiting and standard policy open to the public

It is by design. We want people to register first, registration is free ...although hmmm ... nvm ... :)

that way we limit the number of people who can post garbage without consequence. Registration really only requires a name/pass and valid email.

Sioux... from my POV HNM and/or endgame shells are about accomplishing the crazy stuff that you couldn't possibly do on your own. (this being the all-emcompassing you) Nobody can solo Tiamat... nobody can solo Kirin... but most of us want to see them... That's why *I* joined an endgame shell. It's all about teamwork, accomplishment, and friendship. Like Alauce said, sure, some of it is about popularity. If you have a bad rep on the server, you're not going to be accepted into high-demand shells. Additionally, if you know people in the shell, they will be able to step up and voice their opinions of how you play. I have to disagree with one point, though... I can only speak from the view of Aurora, but I know that skill and talent are pretty much required.

Knowing what little I know of you from our brief talks, I think you might enjoy the endgame experience. The best way to make a decision, though, is to talk to the people that you know in the shell after you've considered everything on the forums. You'll want an honest opinion from a friendly POV. Namfoodle really influenced my decision to apply to Aurora, for instance, because he told me flat-out what they did, how they did it, and most importantly, what they didn't do. I also had wonderful talks with Lunarians, AD, and IRON members about how their shells work and what they expect. Unfortunately they didn't really line up with what I wanted to do at endgame, but that's how it goes. It's kind of like sorority rush LOL.

NOTE: THIS IS A DISCLAIMER... I am ill while writing this so if anyone got offended know it wasn't intended. I know members of most of the NA and some of the JP HNM/endgame shells on our server and I respect them, so. There you have it.

I have a question that I hope can be answered. I live in the Eastern Time zone but work graveyard. My usual play time during the week is roughly 7am-Noon and on the weekends I am pretty much free whenever. Most of the LS sites don't specify when they make Dynamis/Raid/God Fight runs, and the one that does specifies PST night time events. Are there any HNMLSs that do events in the mornings? JP that accept english speaking players or English LSs that just do HNMs and such at that time. Hope I can get a little insight. Thanks.

You could try to apply for JPN HNM LSes I known several English players in some. I think BuyBuybaby was/is an HNM shell with jpn/english mix, another is AlphaOMega. Most of the time though you need some connection.

Another option is Euro or Chinese shells like TWclub (or Bubugary, not sure if they're still the same) which plays at that time.
