I managed to convince my GF to try the game out :)
Many thanks to eckko for providing me with some uber cesti+1 for my lvl 1 mnk that i'm leveling with her.
By the end of the night she was upgrading her spells on her own and setting up macros and had a pretty good understanding of how hate works.
And to vinny if you read this she tried to /bow for the buffs you gave but couldn't target you before you ran away so thanks!
The highlights of our night include me saying "lets take this shrapnel" and a gob landing Dia on her with 10HP left ; ;
So if you see a lvl 5 Hume Female BLM running around Gustaberg named talulah give a /wave

Good job! It's always a bliss to convice someone to try out one of the best mmorpg in the History of gaming. I'll give her a wave if I see her (and perhaps some gil :p)

lol gil will never be an issue for her. Basically i have gear and items and stuff for the lower elvel jobs covered. I won't bog her down with the farming aspects just yet because i think that would push her away.
I made sure to describe the aspects she would like:
#1. You can dress up your character.
#1b. You can decorate your mog house.
#2. You can be taller than me (she's hume i'm taru, IRL i'm 6'1 she's 5'3)
#3. You don't have to fight, you could be a cook or a fisherman etc. (she seemed to like the idea of fishing)
#4. I told her we could get married (in game). ^^
#5. She's at school most of the time so i told her we could go on virtual dates while she was away, to go watch a sunset or something like that.
#6. Then i gave her lots of little quests that i made up to get her accustomed to the town.
#7. Tons of positive reinforcement. though she did an excellent job anyway so all of it was well earned.
#8 I think the biggest thing for her was seeing how happy it made me to have her playing.
Also she just got a new PC and was dying to see some cool stuff on it so i told how cool FFXI would look on it. (this is how i segwayed (sp?) into the conversation, and the next day i had a second copy).

My wife is a level 56 Cook, 11 Fisherman, and is only a level 15 WHM with no sub job :)
She loves crafting but hasn't been on much because she's at 30 weeks pregnant as of tomorrow and this baby is starting to make life difficult.
