What is the best stuff to donate? Spinach seems to do pretty well but other than that most of the random food I'm picking up (cherries, beans) don't do much for me (for donating or for consuming).

i donate the food i make with the raw materials, like simple bbq which gives me 9 favor per donation. Dunno for sure what all the raw materials give, but most of mine have been <1 per item.

I believe the formula is 1/10 of the price or energy received from a food. So, meat for example is worth one favor each, because it restores 10 energy. Things like beans only restore 1 energy, so you'd need to donate 10* to get one favor.

*Edit: Actually, the amount is rounded up. So 5 beans would give one favor, if you donated them 5 at a time.
Edit2: Also, I sent Vataro a gift Smiley: grin

Ah. So cooking would be a good skill to pick up then?

Also, you recommend gardening, but without a place to call home and have an actual garden is it really that useful?

The gardening name is a misnomer. Things you grow in plots are crops; gardening relates to trees.

Cooking is fine as a skill (and I have it), but I'd put crafting off until later, especially as it only takes like 30 minutes to learn it... even if it's your last skill, it would be an hour or two tops.

I do advise you get mining early on though. It's not all that energy efficient, so it's better as something to do when you know you won't have much play time that (game) day. Unless you can make earthshakers, that is.

Mining will give you ore, that sells well. But it also donates well. 1 chunk of dullite is .4 favor, 1 chunk of beryl is .6, and 1 chunk of sparkly is .8. Just run around, only mining sparkly nodes. Then sprinkle some shrine poweder--enjoy getting a ridiculous amount of favor all at once. :P

I also highly recommend Meditation (and Focused Meditation). Effectively doubles your daily supply of energy, and is an infinite source of mood.

Because I fail at reading who PMs me, Vataro is now 2500 currants richer and has precise instructions on how to get a house.

In other news, Sorry KTurner Smiley: laugh

I have meditation and mining. Focused Meditation sounds pretty handy. Should I get Refining now so I can refine ore or should I just save that for when I actually start getting into alchemy?

I've ignored Mining, Alchemy, Refining, etc. Pretty much that whole right side of the tree.

Gardening is a good way to get Favor. I harvest every tree I can find, and get enough food to restore most of my energy, and dozens of music blocks for 40-80 favor each. I can harvest for quiet some time now, since it's only 2 energy per Pet/Water/Harvest and I get about 6 exp per, plus a random food/collectible.

I squeeze/nibble/milk all the animals, they give bonuses. Chickens give music blocks, they all give the random Gurly Drinks (Animal interactions cost no energy for 5 minutes). Unfortunately the Gurly Drink doesn't work on the Butterfly "Sing To". So that still takes 80-160 Energy, but gives a ton of EXP.

Eggs give .5 favor when donated, and I can usually get 500-700 going through the NW Passage area. Cherries/Beans/Fruit don't give much, but the interactions give Food/Blocks, so that's good. Meat gives 1 each, so that's nice.

Once BL5 is done today I'm going to learn the 3 Croppery skills, then get the last Gardening Skill, then the last Animal Kindness. I should be rolling in the rewards after that.

I wish there was an easier way to harvest butterflies, they all move around so much it's hard to keep track of them. And your daily harvest is not connected to the auto-harvesters, so even if you have collectors in your yard, still harvest your animals every day for more items.

I do an ancestral lands run when I'm low on Energy or have harvested everything I can for the day.

On a side note, I got a free month's subscription for being a tester. Even though I didn't start playing until after it launched. So now my guy's outfit looks a bit different. But I think I'll lose it all once my month is over.

Is teleportation worth getting early on, or only once I have a house?

That depends on how much time you have, really. But I'd wait until you know what you'd want it for.

And I would wait to get refining until your mining is higher. I still barely use refining, because I've barely invested in Alchemy.

Jick, the lead designer of Kingdom of Loathing, also seems to play Glitch; I just asked to be his friend. Oh, and I requested the friendship of "Stoot," the president of Tiny Speck and one of Glitch's main developer.

Networking! Hooray!

Edit: Also had someone ask me last night if my character (Locke) was named after the philosopher. Kinda embarrassing to say "Er, no, it's named after a Final Fantasy character..." Smiley: grin

I just found out tiny speck is a vancouver company! Rad.

I know the cooking skills are easy and could be learned later, but it is nice to be able to turn raw materials I'm gathering into stuff. And I am never running out of energy, I have a lot of food handy all the time to replenish it.

I think I will leave alchemy etc for later and focus on the animals and plants and meditation - get a level of mining so I can get some stuffs but not much else.

I think there are still two houses for sale on the 1300 block of Padoki Prim. I'm in 1377.

They are either 30k or 50k homes (Don't know exactly which). The Padoki street connects directly to the Ancestral Lands.

Cruuuuuuuuud. I just realized I'm at 39 skills learned (including all the BLs) and my times are definitely increasing Smiley: mad I was thinking I still had a few left before I needed to focus on the last of the long ones... oh well. Looks like my next three skills will be (in no particular order): Gardening V, Tinkering V, and Teleportation III-V. The last teleportation will take the longest, but I'll need to wait a long time until I get to it... but it'll take even longer if I wait... gah...

Huh, I just noticed that Unlearning I-III are, uh, unlearnable. Interesting.

I think Earth and Loam are used in the Block building skills for street construction. It's the more advanced stuff later in the game where you participate in actually building new streets.
