Hi,

I don't own any of the big 3 (latest next gen systems), but ive been playing Bad company 2 on a friends PS3. I checked the 'games store' offerings, and I was kinda blown away. In BFBC2, you actually have to BUY CO-OP mode as a 'DLC'!

I know DLC's are starting to be the modus operandi now, but I cant stop thinking 'what the hell' when a game mode that should be standard you actually have to purchase additionally.

Is this par for the course now? Selling essentially 2/3rds or 1/2 of a game, then expecting players to actually pay more for the rest?

Why should it be standard? BC2 was plenty complete when it came out.

And I hardly see how a little co-op mode is 1/2 of the game, everyone who bought BF2/BF1942/2142/vietnam must all be pissed, since they only bought half a game. combine that with the fact that theve already brought out 7 free little map packs, and your gonna complain about having to pay for a little co-op mode? what, are the devs supposed to be enslaved to you forever? they need to make money somehow.

Thanks for the laugh.

You do have a point that co-op isnt 'essentially' 1/2 or a 1/3 of the game. Combined with the additional skins, the maps that are the same maps but in different play modes (Laguna seca Rush, etc), it just doesnt feel full. Ive been playing BF for quite awhile, and vietnam/BF/ even the expansions had more available maps for the standard modes.

I bought all the original BF expansions, and I dont mind paying for NEW maps, but paying for rehashed maps in a different mode doesnt sit right with me.

Black Ops, and MW (among many other FPS's, i assume) include Co-op with the original game package.... so why not BFBC2?

'Enslaved forever'.. lol.. You act like i called for EA's and DICE's heads on pikes, I did nothing of the sort.

Bad Company 2 is quite possibly (in my opinion) the best first persons shooter on market at the moment. The reason that Co-op mode is DLC and not standard with the game, is that it's not necessary in the slightest. I assume by Co-op that you mean the campaign? If so, it's definately not necessary. You don't get anything else out of the story if you add another person, all it does is make the game significantly easier, unless they make more enemies spawn when you're doing the campaign in Co-op mode. They definately didn't release with 2/3rds of a game, and I've seen a ton of new maps ship out at no extra cost to the consumer.

It's not as though they lied to people and claimed that the game had co-op when it didn't. Anyone who bought BF:BC2 knew from the get-go which game modes it included and which it did not. You act as though co-op is some standard feature that every FPS has to have, and that you're being cheated if the developer includes it as DLC instead. What would be wrong is if DICE sold you the game, then forced you to pay $2 for the ability to actually install it, or something silly like that. I don't see any problem with them releasing a co-op mode as paid DLC later on, though I have to wonder why they're bothering for BC2, given its campaign was never the draw.

My apologies. Excuse my use of the word CO-OP... i really meant 'split-screen', as in 2 person online battle. Back in ye old days, it was sometimes called CO-OP.

So again, i meant 'split screen' not 'CO-OP Campaign'.... :| .. but that would be fun too!

I agree. I feel bad 'hogging' the tv when other people are over, thats why i want a ERHM... 'split screen' mode. I want other people to join in the fun!

Ohhh, you want Guests. As for hogging the screen? Take turn about, ever time you die, the controller switches hands. That's what I used to do when my friends came round and we played Resident Evil 4 all night, all those years ago. I would say play a game each, but some Bad Company 2 games can go on for a few hours, so I don't recommend that.

As far as I know, Black Ops was the first CoD to introduce split-screen online. It's a neat feature, and I wish more games had it, but I can't really get mad at a developer if they don't want to take the time to include it, or if they choose to add it in later because they were pressed for time originally.

Personally, I love seeing that (2) next to a guy on the other team's name. It means that somebody's poor, newbie friend is along for the ride, and ripe for the picking. Smiley: tongue

Mostly to me it means those two guys aren't going to be able to see ****, so I can ambush them all day long. Unless one of those guys is my friend, playing on my TV. Then we'll just die a lot. Smiley: frown

CoD3 had split screen online, but that game sucked. Really bad. They got rid of it until Black ops. I'm not expecting to see it in Modern Warfare 3, because the only ones that have had it so far have been CoD3 and Black Ops, which were both developed by Treyarch. Modern Warfare 3 will be Sledgehammers first (possibly last) Call of Duty, so I think they're going to keep the things that people don't like out the game, and for the most part, people don't like split screen multiplayer, because when you get those guys on your team, it's almost a guaranteed loss.
