Have any of you managed to romance Isabela in Act 3? I mean, go from friends to lovers in Act 3?

I just did the second companion quest (No Rest For The Wicked) and she was all "You're the bestest friend I could ever hope to have!" and I was all "Take me with you on your ship, and get some more heart dialog options, ffs!" but then she was all "See ya, Hawke" and now there are no more dialogs.

Silly to obsess over something like this, I know, but games like this one has about zero replay value to me since I remember the storyline after one play. Sure, the dialogs might differ based on my "personality", but the story doesn't change, which means I'll know the outcome of every single quest before I do them, which is boring. So I want to get it right on the first time through, but here's the problem:

I checked the save games. I've got a manual save game in Act 2, but since I don't know where I missed a romance option, I'll have to start over from Act 1. Fun fact: From the beginning of the game to early Act 3, the game saves itself 300 times - but in one file. So if you mess up something halfway through the game, you can choose between rewinding to the previous auto-save, or to reload from the beginning, unless you manually saved the game before the 5-hour mark dialog.

Coupled with my quasi-eidetic memory, I'm stuck. I don't want to complete the game without romancing Isabela, but I need to replay the game from Act 1 to do it. And there is no way in hell I'm replaying this game from Act 1.

IIRC, your chance to consummate the romance happens in Act II. Not sure if it can be done in Act III.

Ironicly even though he the emo king romancing fenris has been the most romantic storyline. It actually feels like dating instead of, flirt flirt, let's @#%^. Ok let's move in.

Isabella and archer boy are left on my romancing list. Is it possible to romance Avaline before she goes with her lacky?

Edit: I also find it funny anders always has something to say about who your dating when your not dating him in his justice quest.

This honestly bothered me. You flirt a few times with your lover de jour, bump uglies, and they're ready to shout their undying love from the mountaintops. In DA:O, the romance system wasn't perfect, but at least the courting period was longer than a week.

Aveline cannot be romanced. During the quest The Long Path (?), you can pick the romance dialogue option every time, and she'll just ignore it (or completely miss it).

I wish you could romance Aveline. She's and Varric are the only characters that aren't flighty...

I also wish that your other companions would do their own thing if you don't romance them. Like them getting with other companions (or non-companion NPCs). That way it doesn't feel they're just kinda sitting around, like they have lives.

Though the fact that you can run into some of them visiting each other is a REALLY nice touch, imo. Like Isabela teaching Merrill at the Hanged Man. :P

Cutscene happens near the chantry board in act I, I think. Haven't bothered getting it, though, so I can't say for certain.

It's even funnier if you read ahead to what happens at the end of the game if you romance him.

Romance him as a friend, and he tries to get you to join the chantry so you can enter into a "chaste marriage" with him. The rival romance sounds pretty awesome and potentially worth the lack o' initial sex, though.

Woah, seriously? I saw her leaving Fenris' house one day (when he told me his sister was coming), but I didn't know they had something goin' on. Isabela seems to always be visiting everyone, afterall.

Though she left my party, so he's probably gonna be even more emo now.


Sebastian's rivalry romance does sound interested... Now THAT'S a Sebastian that isn't a whiny toerag! :D

Question, do I still have to execute a certain mage to get the rivalry romance? I'm assuming yes, but that seems stupid. I mean, if I'm at 100% rivalry with him, it's because I've never sided with the chantry. I'd get it if a friendship romance required it, but a rivalry one? :/

Also, if Sebastian takes back Starkhaven and marries me, I'm assuming sex will be involved (just outside of DA2's timeline). I mean, it isn't a chaste marriage with a rivalry, and he's gonna need heirs (as will I).

No idea, but I'd execute him anyway to be sure. It isn't like it's not incredibly satisfying after him pulling that ****.

I'm still pissed about that and it hasn't even happened in my play through yet--I'm on the Justice quest now. How dare he @#$%ing lie to me?!

Might as well ask this as well:
Did anyone manage to stop him from killing that Mage when you are infiltrating the circle to take out that templar? I can't remember what dialogue option I chose, but Justice went into a rage and killed her. Just wondering if you can stop him...

Damn, I remember debating between that one and another (it was probably the witty option, because the sarcastic Hawke is sexy). Oh well, I'll choose it next time.

I started a new game and I'm picking Bad *** Hawke for all but the most ridiculous responses.

Much like the sarcastic options, my female mage is now an *** kicking, no crap taking mean b*tch all the time. And it's hilarious.

And romancing in this game appears to be much harder than in DA1 (where they basically jumped your bones at the first opportunity). You really have to pick and choose your words...

Also, if you play Dragon Age: Legends on Facebook, you get some free in game items for DA2/ME2. I haven't tried them yet to see what they're like, though.

Meh, I just read the guides over at The Dragon Age Wiki. Pretty much lets you know which quests to take certain companinons on and what to say in those quests to earn their friendship/rivalry.

I find that I'm doing that less and less lately. I used to pore over guides and min/max my way to a perfect play-through in RPG's. Lately I'm finding it more fun to roll through them haphazardly, with all the ****-ups and unintentional consequences that result. I'm enjoying that unpredictability and the difficulty that results.

Oh, no doubt, and I like doing it that way too sometimes. I mainly use the guides when I want a certain outcome (say I want to romance a certain character) and am stymied as to how to do it.

You know, I'd really like them to build on the relationship/choice system (for the next game) so that, when you make certain choices, you not only cause your Hawke to act differently, but you actually change the conversation choices available as well. It has just always kinda bothered me that I can be witty for the first half of the game and then just arbitrarily kill people if I feel like it.

I'm not saying that it should be permanent, but I'd like to see some kind of a moving spectrum. As you choose the "evil" options, your options get progressively more evil. So you can either choose to stay as you are, or slowly get more and more cruel.

I just think it could make some really interesting changes to the quest system. As it stands, you are free to completely act however you want with companions. Isabela can think you are a heartless, greedy ******* at the same time that Sebastian thinks you are a chantry-loving do-gooder.

And if we are all spending time together over a period of many years... that shouldn't be possible.

Hmm...I'm not so sure. I've been finding (particular with DA II) that my responses tend to fall all over the board. See, I always like to answer in the manner that I think I'd realistically respond, were I in the same situation. Even with that mindset, my responses have been all over the board in this game. Most often I respond with the humorous options, but I frequently pick the other ones if they seem more suitable to the situation. If I find that a particular NPC grinds my gears a lot, then I'll be more harsh with him. If I like them, then I'll treat them well.

I have to wonder if involuntary changes to your character responses might detract from the freedom of controlling the way that your character emotes. I'm enjoying the balance that DA II has right now...I'm free to respond with the option that best suits me, while the dialogue is occasionally spiced with a few involuntary responses.

It's just that my responses tend to go back and forth wildly. I don't know if I see a benefit to restricting that. It just strikes me as a cutting-back of freedom to role-play the way that I see fit. I don't think that one character worshiping me while another abhors me is a problem with the morality options presented to the player. If anything, it's a problem with the predictable and linear way that the companions react to my decisions. I think the way to address things is to add more, deeper options for responses, and for more subtle, well characterized reactions by NPC's and companions. Ultimately, companion feelings should not be on a linear scale between "friendly" and "angry". They should be deep and complex; more evocative of real human emotion.

I'm not trying to restrict choices, I just want the choices to reflect who my character is.

For example, say I've chosen the charming option for nearly every dialogue option that didn't have the sheriff symbol available (or romance, for those characters). So I'm used to my Hawke being witty, charming and sarcastic, both in dialogues and when bantering with party members.

Now suppose I run into a bunch of blood mages that have been sacrificing people, so I KNOW I'm going to kill them. But it just doesn't feel right for my charming Hawke to inform them that he will be ripping out their spines through their anuses (okay, exaggeration, but do you get my point)? I'm ALL FOR being able to choose to fight, if I want--I'd just like the response to be more appropriate to my character.

It's just weird to play a goody-goody and arbitrarily become super aggressive. I don't want the aggressive option to disappear for the good characters, I just want it to be more appropriate. It's just weird to see my sarcastic Hawke lapse into a super good mode whenever I choose a good option with a priest or something. I want him to be pious, but not at the expense of no longer being charming... The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Note--this would, of course, increase the amount of VAing required for DA3's main character by quite a bit. It's just something I would like to see.

Anyone else playing Dragon Age: Legends on Facebook? It's kinda fun. Pretty difficult as well, which is unusual for a FB game.

Plus you get a few nifty in game items for DA2 in the process.

Also, much like Mass Effect 2, female bad *** character is awesome. Far better than the male version. I highly recommend it. Especially as a mage.

Ah, I gotcha. So like, if you've been playing as a quippy, sarcastic character for most of the game, but you pick a violent action, then Hawke will do the violent action, but with a quippy, sarcastic spin to it.

Makes sense to me. Yeah, as I said before, I like to mix in some different responses based on the particulars of the situation. I have noticed that my character sometimes comes off a little bi-polar as a result. Smiley: tongue

The game should pick up on that, too, and have the party dialog while you're wandering the street reflect that.

Anders: "Hawke, will you be ripping someone's spine out of their **** today or merely cutting their ego with your vocabulary? I just want to know if I should wear my good shoes or not."

It's not so bad if you always pick the sassy option, since his responses will range from being charming to being sarcastic, so the angry responses aren't perfect, but you can think that they maybe just pushed him too far. But it's really awkward if you are violent/pious to choose the other one. And I always found it really awkward for the sarcastic Hawke to choose the hammer option (Idk what to call it--decisive?). He spends so much time acting like a comedian, that it's just a weird for him to be so forward (so I never choose those now)...

I can see why they wouldn't do it, since it will likely increase the VA requirements by 66%. That's quite a lot.

And a prefer the system with strong responses than one that gives less-unique ones so to avoid the issue (as if your 3 options were generally sassy, slightly pious, slightly violent).

I just finished the game.
I sided with the Mages and killed Anders, who I had been romancing. But I dumped him when he pulled the ******** at the end of his personal quest, with the whole "You don't want to know, because you won't like it, but if you loved me, you'd help me." Yeah, f*ck you Anders. There's nothing about love that requires me to be your slave. I've walked into f*cking sewers and dragon dens for you, and you're gonna pull that sh*t?

I knew the spoilers about Orsino and Meredith, so those weren't surprising. But I wish he would have talked more, and Bethany would have reacted.

My ending glitched and said that Anders disappeared with me. >:( I DUN WANNA BE HAUNTED!

VERY disappointed that there was no Fenris death scene. I know DA:O never had them either, but c'mon. Would it kill you to give them last words? Though I kinda feel bad--I try that hard to convince him. Which is unfortunate, because the wiki tells me I could have with my high...whatever I had (friendhsip/rivalry, that is).

DA2 Cullen is interesting. I never actually got around to doing an "evil" DA:O play through, so I never invoked the Right of Anullment. So my Cullen always flipped out, killed a bunch of mages, and ran. It really upsets me that it wasn't referenced ANYWHERE. And what happens if you made him knight commander of Ferelden? He's such a central character--he can't just not be there.

Still though, it was nice that he seems to have grown since the last game. He's not so "KILL THEM ALL" anymore. Granted, he's still a jailer, but a jailer that actually seems to care that his prisoners aren't getting sacrificed.

All in all, I definitely enjoyed the game. Though the ending definitely was a little too short. And it's depressing that every Mage in the circle seems to have died, despite me protecting them. And remind me again why we just had them scattered throughout the gallows? Wouldn't it make WAY more sense to have had all of them in the room with us?

ANYWAY, I'm gonna start a new playthrough now. Trying to decide what I want to be... There's supposedly a new patch coming out as soon as Sony/Microsoft approve it that will fix the Isabela/Sebastian stat reduction problems, so they are both romance possibilities. I was entertaining playing a Warrior, but I think I'm gonna go Mage, so that I can have carver this time around.
