Mostly my requests are for PvP:
I'd like ANet to run a pay-to-enter league, with the money covering actual prizes and administration. There could also be a free entry league, of course, that would have smaller prizes like art prints, mouse pads, keyboards, mice, or small gift cards.
Provided PvP matches go a bit quicker in GW2, I'd also like the structure of a "match" to change - I'd like there to be options for best of 3 or 5 maps to determine a winner, for example. To be more specific, say you're laddering - rather than playing one 30 minute game against your opponent, you'd play 3 different 10-minute maps against the same team, with first team to 2 wins taking the victory. If it ends 2-1, you could even give some rank points to the team that "lost". Also of course if one team felt completely overwhelmed after the first round, they could resign and concede the entire match. I think this would help avoid some of the gimmick builds that work through surprise rather than by being solid builds. Perhaps allow 30-60 seconds between maps to adjust utility and elite skills, something like the sideboard in magic?
Lastly, I want to see a lot of features that make getting into PvP attractive and inviting for new players, or traditionally PvE players. For example unique, cool rewards that are easy to get after relatively few pick-up PvP matches - don't hide them in the competitive PvP format! - give people a reason to try out PvP, but make it fun, not a huge grind that just frustrates people and turns them off like PvP titles in GW1.
Another option would be to have a "training", "fun", or "casual" mode on some of the PvP "servers" in the "PvP browser list". Something akin to big game hunters from starcraft, or the 32 player FPS servers with funny rules like "snipers only" or "pistols only" - where the focus would be on goofing around with no pressure rather than winning. Maybe make it so elites have 1/2 length recharge, or you respawn instantly, that sort of thing. Though now that I think about it, a lot of the city activities can fill this role - for example bar brawl, where you're doing PvP but in a low-pressure environment.
