Hey all, first time poster on the EQ2 side :)

So, I played EQ2 for a few months in 2010, when the EQ2x first came out. I went gold, and made most of my plat (not that it was that much) through broker sales.

I just returned, and I'm playing silver right now, so no broker sales. I'm not really making any plat at all, and actually losing when accounting for coin spent on spell upgrades. So far I've just been doing quests in my level zones (level 55 right now). Any good hints for ways to raise a bit more quickly? I'm not looking to make tons, but something that could net me a plat a day or so would be cool.

Thanks,

Tat

Well, we do have a guide with some tips: How to Make Money in EQ2. Some of it is about selling things on the broker, which is your disadvantage, of course.

- First, either level up yourself in crafting enough to upgrade your own spells or to only buy spell upgrades you feel are absolutely necessary (at 55 I honestly wouldn't be spending much on them), or even, harvest the ingredients you need for your upgrades then as on the Crafting channel for someone to make them offering a small tip.

- Next, concentrate on bigger money-making quest... the Gathering Obsession quests are good for any level (and you can do most of them at 55) and Tenebrous Tangle quests pay out a decent amount of coin, which adds up quickly if you're not spending it.

- Consider trying something a bit off the wall: mentor down to level 5 or 10 and go through some newbie mobs, collecting tradeable Treasured items (adept books, armor, weapons, jewelry). Add up how many tradeable items you have figure out how much you would earn if all of them sold at 5g each (so 12 items would be 60g, 50 items would be 2p 50g, etc). Hop onto your server's Auction or 1-9 chat and offer to sell all those items for that cost ("Selling 50 level 1-9 transmute fodder items, 2p50g for the whole bunch, send tell!). I can't promise that someone will bite quickly, but when I sell low level Treasured transmute fodder piece, I sell them for 5g each on broker (Legendary items usually go for 10g+ each... this is on the Everfrost server... you may have to browse your own server for pricing).

- If you have excess monthly event currency (City Tokens or Elemental Tokens) that you don't want to use, offer to buy someone items with them in exchange for a payment.

- Finally, sell everything you don't want to keep to a vendor! Again, this adds up over time. Tenebrous Tangle (and other KoS zones) has a lot of "Treasured" armor drops and those should sell at a respectable value for that level range.

BTW, I'm Phantasy on the Tunare server (originally from E'ci). Noticed your sig! Smiley: grin

Hey Cyliena, thank you, that's exactly the kind of info I've been looking for. And LOL at me for not seeing the on-site gold guide :)

I do have an alt that makes my spell upgrades, but between the cost of the advanced books and a few other misc things, my plat since return last week has gone from 8pp to 5.5pp now. But some of your suggestions will help a lot. In fact, your comment about the Gathering Obsession quests rang a bell, I was doing them when I played in 2010.

I also appreciate the comment on the lowbie items for transmuting. I did that for myself in 2010, but it didn't occur to me to do it some more for selling. Good one :)

I'll add you to /friend on EQ1, though honestly, I haven't played it in 2 weeks now. Have been back to it for just about 6 months now, and that's usually my limit for burnout, or whatever. That's why I restarted EQ2 last weekend. Honestly, the changes to F2P that they recently made sure helped.

Thanks again!

Tat

Hah it's okay, I'm not on there often either! But it's not often I bump into someone on here from my server. Smiley: nod

Glad to help, good luck with getting your funds back up! Make sure you're doing tradeskill quests, some of those will grant advanced books.

We have 7 accounts in my house. Wife and my main account Gold. Kids and my 2nd box on Silver. I've made pretty much all the plat I need via broker, so kids constantly asking for money. I solved that problem by showing them how to farm higher level chests (Exquisite Chests, etc) from names. And you are about the level for Tenebrous Tangle (TT), which is where I showed them how to farm.

First, make sure you have EQ2Maps installed. If you don't have it, up above under EQ2Interface is Maps. Go there, install the Auto Update mode. Now when your in EQ, your maps will be marked up with all types of stuff. Quest locations, named mobs, etc. The Red Xs are named mobs. At 55 you can roll through Sinking Sands. Make notes of where the named mobs are. Cycle through them, get their loot, sell to merchants. Bet in Sinking Sands 1 round of names will get you more than a plat. TT has a ton of names and easy to get to them.

Suggest getting Gold though. Having access to the broker will open up a lot to you. I sell almost everything on the broker. From Adept spells, quest items, collectables, crafted items, etc etc.

What I do for myself is buy up fertilizer foods for the house pet (you give him fertilizer in exchange for shinies). Whatever shinies I get, I sell on the broker. Some of them go for around 150p a piece (and I only spent 15 gold to buy the 3 fertilizer items).

:)

Thanks for the further replies.

One quick question on the plant shinies: I looked on my server's broker this morning, and didn't see any of them (the shinies) for sale. Which ones are the big sellers? And is it just the top tier ones that sell? I have mats to make a few, but only up to tier 5 or 6.

Thanks,

Tat

You mean they Buryani shinies or the plant potions?

The plant shinies that MissJackie had just mentioned.

From this link on the wiki, it looks like they're all called "something root", except for the toadstool.

I think Miss Jackie means the collection items you can get--not for feeding the carnivorous plants (that's what gives the roots, which aren't tradeable), but for giving fertilizer to the burynai seeker or coldain herbalist guild amenity. http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/Fertilizer_(EQ2)

OK, thanks for clarifying. I have never heard of either of these (the seeker and the herbalist), so I'm fairly sure I don't have either. And my guild is level 7, so I probably won't have access for a while :)

Thanks,

Tat

Update: saw that the burynai is a /claim item for RoK pre-order, so I probably won't have that, though I'll check /claim when I get home tonight

Update 2: Found the herbalist info. Just 10p (more than I have right now, LOL!), and doesn't take up an amenity slot, so once my guild hits 30, I can get one (no guild halls before level 30, right?)

Right, guild halls are at 30. If you can find someone's house with a burynai seeker in it you can feed their seeker. I used to do that prior to guild halls (I never had the RoK pre-order either). Or, ask around on your server's chat channels and see if anyone would be willing to create a char and /claim and place a seeker in one of your homes for you.

If you're on Antonia Bayle I'd be happy to do that for you - we just have to try and coordinate.

Very kind offer, but not necessary :) I've been leveling my alt army the last week, so haven't had any need for plat right now. Got 7 new alts rolled, leveled to 20, and all with tradeskills to at least 20 :) Double XP has sure been nice!

Oh yeah, got the guild to 10 as well :)

Thanks,

Tat

Just wanted to post an update, in case it would be useful to any new players...

Never did anything with the broker, or any other schemes, and just spent less. Then, I hit ~70, and headed to Kunark, and it's been much better. It's like they really upped the quest coin rewards and mob drops in Kunark, compared to KoS, and now I'm constantly growing my plat stash, and that's AFTER spending coin on spell upgrades, top notch food/drink, and other miscellaneous items.

So if you're new, and plat is scarce, just get to ~70, and head to Kunark. It gets much better there.

Sorry for the necro, but I thought you might get a kick out of this. I have three accounts, with the other two being rarely used for EQ2. I noticed Friday night that account 2 has the Burynai from RoK in /claim, even though account 1 does not. And I never pre-ordered RoK on that account, and never bought any expansion that I didn't also buy on account 1. So it's a mystery (but a happy one, LOL)!

At level 55 you're about the right level for the basket quests in TT that used to net quite a bit of cash. Not sure how the merc's do @ that level but maybe try hiring a merc and run some instances? Once you get to around level 68 and can start in Kunark from that point on you'll make way more cash completing quests than you do in alot of the older zones.
