Velious Expansion ... 13GB RemainingFollow

Yippee! It's another patch day!

The old launcher says 'Download Cancelled' after a minute or two - it's broken.

The new launch pad lets me into game, which then crashes because it's not downloaded enough files. It doesn't seem to want to patch the files I have, but instead to download the entire 13.64GB.

Hope Velious is worth the wait - I won't be playing today...

Please give our LaunchPad for Everquest II a shot instead. When installing it, select your existing EQ2 folder to avoid a hefty re-download of the game.

I'm just having a go at loading the US patches instead of the EU ones. Still using LaunchPad, I've changed to 'English US' - which triggered about 10 minutes scanning files. It then wants to do a 646MB 717MB Update (changed it's mind) - much better than 13GB.

I'll let you know how it goes...

Hope that works out better for you! I heard a lot of EU people yesterday were just doing the US patch and copying them over.

I'm seeing a lot of people with huge download times. I had maybe a 10-15 minute download the night/morning release. Did it make a difference on digital download or store bought?

Ummmmmm......... yes. The difference is that if you have the discs, all the actual content for the new zones (textures etc) and for the expansion pac itself comes off the discs and only the latest data (common game elements, last minute changes and operational patches) needs to be downloaded.

There is bound to be a HUGE difference between the two.

I had a pre-order digital copy. Well, I'm thankful I didn't end up waiting for a download but I guess it wouldn't have made any difference since there was almost an entire day the servers were down for it. Any good input on the expac? I have only been able to log on once for about 2 hours so far. I did some trade quests in the new area but that's it. I had to finish something else on an alt before proceeding to Velious again. I'll always miss the days a little bit where I had more time to play.

To confirm, changing to 'US English' on LaunchPad involved a 717MB download. Once that was complete I switched back to 'EU English'. That then said it wanted to download 12GB - but let me play without crashing. I don't know if it was downloading more in the background while I was playing.

And when I logged off at about 4:30pm GMT, there were 8 instances of the new zone running :). Boy those armoured sea urchins are tough!

There were 9 Great Divides before I logged out of Everfrost last night, and I think I later saw someone say there was 11 instances... that's just crazy talk! Smiley: eek Those armored sea urchins are VERY brutal to anyone that dual wields, I'm afraid to have to fight them again!

One of my favorite things in EQ2 has always been mobs that make me want to NOT fight them! When I know going in that they are gonna tear me up it always puts a nice edge on PvE,,,

It seems to be when they get below 1/3 health - time to stun, bash, knock back like mad and hope you survive the encounter. Brutal is the word. They have done for me four times already - and there doesn't seem to be a mender in the zone either :)

Thankfully, monks get devastating fist. I'm just waiting for the cooldown to end before I fight another one of those urchins!

800 damage for every time I hit them, with dual wield that is suicide.

So they deal 800 damage for each time you connect with them? That's some defense!

Does that only affect melee? What about a root and nuke strategy?

Looks like it might be time to drop Jojo's claws & pick up one-hander + shield again. I really struggled with the Shardwurms for the Culling the Wurms quest. I could only find ancient ones, which are L90 ^. I've not managed to kill one yet, barely escaping with my life 2 or 3 times so far. Tough times for dual wielders.

I exagerrated though, it's when they're at low health that they do that amount of damage to me. At first, it's a leisurely 70 or so.

Devastating Fist luckily works, so it's just a matter of combining quests so I don't have that much downtime :D
