Wanting to get AA pointsFollow

I am a bit confused about this. I went to the AA screen and see at the top, a green and a blue bar, both count towards AA experience. I set the slider to 20% and I can not tell if its really doing anything. I just hit level 11 and want to try earning points. Ive killed a named monster but I guess that particular one does not award AA points. I was just wondering what I should do about the slider and such. I am working towards the great challenge quest and still have about 11 days to complete it, so I think 20% is ok, or should it be higher? Thank you.

A named MoB will only give you AA points the first time you kill it. So if you killed it before you started gaining AA you're out of luck!

Your best bet is to grab some "disco" (discovery) AA by going someplace you've never been before (that offers AA for discovery). Running around in any starter area (like a racial village) you've never been to should do the trick since all the starter areas offer disco in a few places. (TIP: visit whatever "famous land mark" the village is known for). If you've already been to all the starter areas you could try "The Enchanted Lands" since there are very few aggressive MoBs in the area around where you first enter the zone.

Your other option would be to gather some AA for turning in a collection or completing some other AA qualified quest.

But before you do any of that, turn up your AA to at least 50% so that when something does come in it will move the meter!

Is there anywhere that I can find a good AA tool to help me pick my advancements? I am a wizard and looking into putting my first point into Summon Familiar. I solo a lot so am looking for skills to help me boost survivability.

Mobs and quests under level 10 won't grant AA. And setting your slider at 20 will only convert a tiny amount of experience into AA.

My personal play experience isn't like everyone else. I never set my slider at anything other than 0 or 100. If I'm outleveling an area, I set the slider at 100 and just gain AA. Then once I've finished all the gray/green quests and I'm ready to move on, I move it back to 0. I'm goofy like that.

Here's our general AA guide:
Alternate Advancements (EQ2)

Side bar, I've always wanted to know this.. OBD, why do you call mobs MoBs? "Mob" is short for "Mobile Object," and if anything would be MOb.

I wonder the same thing when people type BETA like it's SCUBA (it's a greek word, beta), or DEVS (short for developers, should be devs), or RAID (which is just a raid, in the military sense).

Or an ATM an ATM machine?

Couldn't resist.

I can't speak to "BETA" or "RAID" since NEITHER is actually an acronym (which would warrant capitalization). Both are simple words where 'beta' is indeed the 2nd letter of the Greek alphabet and 'raid' is a quasi-military term used to describe a single fighting unit consisting of up to four 6-player groups.

As far as my use of the term 'MoBs', I always heard that it was a contraction (as opposed to an acronym) for mobile object with the 'Mo' coming from 'mobile' and the 'B' coming from 'object'. (The 's' just makes it plural!) I know it's unusual to drop the first letter of a word in a contraction but I don't think it's unheard of... honestly though, I would have to do some research to be sure...

At any rate, 'MoB' is the way I first saw it expressed (way back in the day when EQ live was the ONLY MMO) and so that's the way I always type it... my recollection could be wrong, but check the ZAM EQ Live archives and I'll bet you'll see it that way in a bunch of posts (including mine!)

Calling an 'ATM' an 'ATM Machine' is just repetitious and redundant! ;-)

I believe it's just a term used from M.U.D.s and carried over, it's no different than calling MOBs->NPCs (Non-Player Characters) which in turn might actually sound better. Have to remember EQ got a lot of influence from Diku derived M.U.D.s.
