ok, to answer aquestion that has already been posted:
no, these books will not be carpenter made. according to the great and glorious Domino, tradeskill developer goddess that she is, informed us in the EQ2 Forum thread (the one specific to this topic) that the book recipies will be for level 50+ sages and will be quested. But since the initial books are completely tradeable (at least that's the impression I got from the forums), sages can just put blank books up on the broker.
I have a level 50 sage that I'm gonna try to get a couple more levels out of and then copy him to the test server for when this feature hits test.
Now, as I mentioned, while the blank books are sage made (at least according to Domino right now), anyone can start writing in a blank book and become an author. and there are alot of things that have been discussed on the forum thread (and probably still more since I last saw it early yesterday afternoon), so if anyone is curious about what all else this will cover, start posting here, or head over to the EQ2 Forums and read up on the thread. lots of nice things that players have requested and even made Rothgar go, "hmm, I didn't think of that, but I will add it to the list," or, "yes, I would like something like that also, and will try to get it out at a later date." (i.e. guild hall librarian NPC amenity, actual functioning bookcases that work like storage containers to hold the books so they don't count against total item count, etc.)
now, I'm sure that there will be some who are wondering, since I brought up item counts, if the player written books will count against item limit in houses and guild halls. the answer is: No, they won't. You can have as many books in you house or guild hall as you want until you hit the hard limit (not the limit on the house, but the limit where the shear number of items in the zone slows everything down).
This is something that I've been looking forward to for a while, so I'm keeping up on it, so if you want to keep the discussion up, lets do it.
