Hello everyone at these fun forums that first got me looking at FFXI and then Wow!
If it isn't too much trouble, I'd just like to discuss a little bit about what I want, and if my impression of EQ2 is right. I've read the faq of course, and a hundred more. But sometimes these things don't get the right information across. Thanks!
I've been wandering again for an MMORPG that I'd like, andI feel a bit let down so far. I mean, WoW is a fun game, but it's honestly a game.
I don't mean that insultingly, I don't play for a long period of time normally.
It's just that I like the open worlds, player housing, and non cmbat roles in RPGs.
That is, for example, I've played I don't know how many hours downloading mods and playing around in Morrowind, creating spells, items, characters, and houses. But I really never made any ground at all in the quest lines.
I love making mods for all my games, and customization and depth win me over tremendously. I don't expect mod making in an MMORPG of course, but customization always seems so lacking...
I tried FFXI, but it wasn't right, far too group based. I love an occasional group, or to join one without too many strings attached at random, but I can't set aside hours just to grind. I loved their cities though, fantastic, and player housing and shops that I honestly missed most in WoW. It was a much deeper game than I first realized in plot and cities, and yet in gameplay shallow.
Whereas, WoW was very fun, with some nice lore, but it just doesn't have customization or any of the roleplaying things I enjoy. I'm not exactly an RPer, exactly, but I like the feeling of it. It was a great game, as I've said, but not at all deep enough.
Vanguard...well, the game actually killed my computer(Well it overheated at the time, my fault for bad positioning, but that's not the real problem!)
Really, it had the customization, but the cities when I played just didn't do it for me, underdeveloped I felt. I loved the races and classes.
So, pardon my rather rambley post, I hope, but I have to ask: Is this game as customizable as it seems, as deep, and indeed, perhaps as fun for soloing and small groups?
And, to get ahead of myself, I've been looking at some classes and races, and I find I really like the Wood Elves, Half Elves and Kerra, as well as Furies, Paladins, Dirges, Clerics, and perhaps illusionists/conjurors. It seems race is not nearly as important as it is in FFXI, but how are the classes in terms of fun. I'm not a raider of the type to care about the "best", and indeed, its for the feel of classes that I most enjoy playing. But is there that same inability to actually level some classes because of stigma(Dragoon at one time that I played FFXI, and Dark Knight too.)
Pardon again my rather long post, but this game seems so nice, and the people the same, that I can hardly contain my excitement. And for that reason I'm cautious, because disappointment would lead me to another period of wanderlust.
Thanks again, and again sorry!
