First off, let me start with a little introduction...
I started playing MMORGs when Neverwinter Nights was the thing to do. I then moved on to Ultima Online and hooked up with a good guild and made a few friends. UO faded away and I applied and was accepted in the original Everquest beta. After the beta, I spent a good amount of time as a guide before running into a few of my old UO guildmates. I played on and off for a while and finally quit Everquest around 2003. (If Balin or Rigger from the Knights of Penance is reading this, you really need to e-mail me.)
Meeting up and gaming with friends, to me, is the best part of the online gaming experience. The problem I've encountered is that EQ was server based and if you weren't on the right server, hooking up with others online was near impossible. I remember that a character could switch servers once for free...after that, you had to pay to have your character switched to a different server. Is this true in EQ2?
I'm about to buy into EQ2. I plan on spending quite a bit of the winter months (outside of work and family obligations) leveling up a character and having some fun. If I can hook up with the right bunch of people, I'll make the time to play on a regular basis.
So, my questions are as follows...
1. Is EQ2 server based and is there a way of switching between servers?
2. Where can I find the guilds that play together on a regular basis?
3. Is there one server that you'd recommend for a roleplayer as opposed to a power-gamer?
Thanks,
Halefryk
