The same could be very much true in this game, however there is a definate need for some sort of arrow consumption reduction. As lame as it sounds, I would have preferred bows shot without any ammo type at all, as it always seems to do this (especially end game.) For one class to be required to consistently dish out coin to do their job while other classes do not is straight up lame.
Just a warning in advance, while I agree with you, what i'm going to say is going to sound mean.
While I agree that the ammo situation is a bit bad (i'm a brig and have 1 ranged CA that uses on average 5 ammo per use with a 30second re-use, and I pull with it lately because it is harder for me to sneak around mobs, so I can feel a little of what rangers are going through) the bolded part of your quote is probably the most argued thing ever.
Every game has classes like this, it is just the way the devs made the classes. Every class has expenses, just some are more then others.
WoW: Every class has armor/weapons/repairs, food, and new spells. Hunters have arrows and food for them and their pets. MANY casting classes have reagents from vendors they have to buy to cast certain spells. Sure they could do w/o them, but they wouldn't want to really.
Every class has expenses that they need to pay to do their job (you don't want a tank running around naked do you?) in a party, just some are higher in cost then others.
FFXI: Every class has armor/weapons, spells and food. Depending on your main/sub job you'll need other things that CAN'T be bought from vendors, like Ninja powders (well ok some can) and ammo (again some can, but only to like 20ish).
Again, we have the fact that every class has expenses they have to pay, and while some are higher (Ninja and Ranger mainly) others can be quite expensive also. Mage spells are (when I was playing) some of the most expensive in the game. Whats worse, is unlike WoW and EQ2, as you get higher in level you gain a lot more dependence on players and crafters to supply you with gear and spells and such. Can't buy much from the NPCs.
EQ2: Like in WoW, every class has armor/weapons/repairs, food, spells (and boy is the eq2 spell system a doozy for spending money in with the multiple teirs of spells). Some classes (well mainly fighters/scouts) can all use ranged weapons to pull mobs with, that costs ammo. Sure none go through as quick as rangers though.
Again, you wouldn't want a tank to go in naked with app 1 taunts would you? So again, we run into the repairs and such.
My point through all of this, every class has expenses that re-occur to do their job, be it repairs, buying new spells, food, ect. Just some cost quite a bit more then others. Sure, it sucks if you play one of those classes, but you should realize that when you signed up to be a "x" that you would be paying a bit more then other classes. At least if you read about the class some... and certainly if you stuck with playing it past, say, level 20, you should realize it is going to be more expensive.
I'm not trying to deney there is a problem with the cost (since the cost for those classes who are more expensive are substationally more expensive) but the fact remains that you should realize that. You make a choice to keep playing those higher-price classes, no one is forcing you. In all the games you could just start over. In EQ2 if you're a good/evil only class (like Ranger) then go betray and you can keep your levels. In WoW you're stuck just starting over sadly. In FFXI you could just go switch jobs and be on the same char and everything.
Like I said, I admit there is problem, I just don't like people who whine about it. Even lowering the vendor cost on ammo would help, or increasing the ranger ability that gives them. Just be glad you're not in FFXI though, where you HAVE to buy ammo and such from other players towards the mid-cap levels.
