Although my ranger is still in his early 40s and I haven't reached the end game yet, I would say that there is a good deal of demand for us there. On the whole, ranger DPS can be fantastic and may even exceed mage DPS from time to time. This would depend on variables like poison procs, spell quality level and weapon quality.
Rangers can pull very well. With a decent bow, you can easily drag a mob right into your camp from extreme distance. However most of the groups I have been in have used the tank to pull while the ranger stayed at the outskirts of the camp, stealthed and ready to back-stab as soon as tank returned with the mob(s).
One of the things I love about my ranger is his solo ability! I love being able to kite mobs with my bow. Pulling them in from maxium range and then peppering them with a stream of (free) arrows as they run towards me, only to have them drop dead at my feet leaving my health at 100%
I also love the ranger's group role, sliding in behind the mob and carving it up while it's attention is still riveted on the tank. Or peeling off the primary mob for long enough to rescue some finger wiggler in tissue paper armor who nuked too hard and now has a big bowl of aggro focused on them!
A well buffed, high level ranger, dual-wielding a pair of fast blades is a beautiful thing!
