Hey guys,
I'm new to eq 2 but I've got a couple 60's on Frontiers.I wanna make a monk but i remember they weren't the greatest dd's. If you could give me your thoughts about this I'd appreciate it. Also, a lot of my friends want me to get into WoW so I can play with them. They say EQ is spent and nobody plays anymore. Is this true? Are there new players like myself still joining the fight? Thanks!!

Everquest 1 has very few new players, however eq2 has plenty of new players and is alive and well. Monks in eq2 are a DPS class, but not as good of DPS as say rangers/rogue types. Monks can SOMETIMES tank, but only when they are the highest in the group. A example of what I mean is say you have 4 people in a group. You have a lvl 15 healer 15 wizard 15 paladin and a 20 monk. The 20 monk would be your best choice for a tank.

Actually, they are a fighter/tank class, even though they do good damage for fighters.

DPS classes do significantly more damage than Monks. Those would be the Scout classes of Ranger, Assassin, Swashbuckler, and Brigand. Troubador/Dirge are Scout classes, but they don't have the high damage abilities as the others. They are primarily buff/debuff.

Mages that do good DPS are Conjurer/Necromancers with Wizard/Warlock at the top of the DPS food chain.

Monks defense is based on their Avoidance, which is normally very high. They depend on not getting hit in order to stay alive. Where other fighters can concentrate on boosting Strength and Stamina, Monks must also raise their Agility to keep that Avoidance up.

There are new players in all the zones! When you create your character you will have a choice of servers. Consider Najena, as it has a bustling population, robust economy, and lots of friendly people.

When you get there, look me up. I can help you get started. :)

As to monks tanking. Normally they have to be highest in group and fighting stuff either even con or lower so that their avoidance isnt gimped. Another is you normally dont want a reactive healer as you get healed when you get hit and you get hit alot harder then most tanks due to lower mitigation. With a normal tank a templar can easily keep up with their single target and group reactive unless with a avoidance tank. When they get hit its normally for more then both of those heals.
