then a error message pops up and says something

That error sometimes means your cd-rom drive is not reading properly. Either that or perhaps that CD is bad? If you have more then 1 cd-rom/dvd-rom drive try putting it in the other. Bad thing is if you got a bad cd most gamestores will not allow you to bring back a MMORPG.

I really doubt your hardware is bad, if it was the installation would give this error at random locations on random cd's. I would venture to say its probably a bad CD.

/agree on the bad cd part

KoS has bad cd's issue. My wife's cd no.4 was defect just like your number 7. Someone from my guild had to D/L the expansion because his cd's were bad too. Now you.

Im afraid youll have to go and change your copy :/

Are you using a DVD/RW drive? There has been known issues with using those drives as a standard disc drive. Activision mentions it on their tech support site for Shadowbane and I've personally encountered the problem myself, not just with Shadowbane, but other games, including City of Heroes. I had to purchase a new DVD drive, just to install several games that would freeze up during the install process. I used to also experience periodic freezes while using the DVD/RW drive to watch movies on.

So from personal experience and tech support sites (like Activisions) I have to completely disagree with fronglo's speculation that nothing is wrong with your hardware.

I would try installing the game on another computer (a friend's for example) and seeing if the install goes smoothly or interrupts at exactly the same point every time, resulting in the same or similar error. If it does, then the disc is probably bad. If the install goes smoothly, go to a local computer store and purchase a new DVD drive for around $20. Some stores like CompUSA even offer a return policy on hardware, so long as you keep all original packaging and materials (just in case you discover the problem is not your disc drive, but something else).

Please post back here and keep us updated of your situation... and good luck!
