I recently downloaded and tried out the "Trial of the Isle" for Everquest 2. I started up as a dark elf mage, lvled up to 6 got all the gear, then i started a half-elf fighter got him to 5. (May get him to 6, not sure if my week is up yet)
I enjoyed it, but since i cant really advance any further, i cant get a real impression of the game for myself.
Nor have i been able to see any players decked out in thier cool armor to truly apprieciate the graphics in the game. Or have a goal to aim for.
In the original EQ(which i played for like 2 years, 55 bst ,52 rog) I would see someone in the coolest armor, or doing something battleing monsters, and they would inspire me to continue playing.
Im not sure if i want the game, and for 30 dollars, i could explore the outside world for one month.
I dont think i want to start another game again, and im hoping that if i DO try it, ill really suit the game.
As far as the original everquest is concerend, I really dont want to go up in that old engine anymore.
So im asking about gameplay, more specific parts of the gameplay in this game.Im also going to compare the things i liked of MMORPGS that i have played, and maybe i can find some of those in Eq2. I dont want to start a mmorpg war here( FFXI vs ** vs ** vs WOw vs..whatever) thats not my intention.
right from the beginning of my days:
Asherons call! - i liked the quests , especially for the special swords. Kind of cool mages.
Everquest: I like the classes, especially the structure of the game. however, it gets a little extreme when your beating on a monster for 5 minutes.
I really enjoyed beastlord. major thing i liked was the game dynamically changed as you rose through the lvls. being lvl 30 was a different game than being lvl 50. or 55, and so on.
There weere also more abilites that classes unlocked,(say, beastlords getting sow at (22 is it?))Druids getting a sort of complete heal. New abilites being given to ones class after a whole bunch of experience has been gained.
Money i found to never be a problem. I always found ways to make money to get the gear i wanted.
Crafting, i've never really bothered doing in eq. i like the crafting in EQ 2 however, it was really neat.
DaOc - Im not really going in depth here,
Dislikes: a class got all of there powers at lvl 5. they just got better or stronger. too boring for me.
FFXI: ( lots of things to say but ill compress it)
Experience: i found unsoloabilty a problem with school. and the game takes a bit too long for my taste. i dont have 5 hours each day to play. ( ><)
I really liked, the storyline and the quests. The world was living and breathing. Like truly alive.
I enjoyed crafting a bit but too much of a money sink.
Money is a bit too hard to obtain, and nevermind i need loads of it to get into the higher lvl game, and certain jobs rely on certain items, dropped by NMS and constantly camped by gil-sellers.
While i love that game, it's just not working out. Its not too-hard,
it just takes TOO long.
WoW:
Im going to have to cut this short (im at school atm)
I find wow to be a bit too easy. Reaching lvl 60 isnt an achievement. no achievements, i dont find myself striving to gain something. (in ffxi, if i was to gain lvl 30 in a job, i'd call that somewhat of an achievement)
Not enough achievements, and no cool high end that EQ has. im still playing now, because this game is soloable.
Overall, i think im looking for something a cross between FFXI storyline and grind( i need a bit of grind to feel achivement) and WoW's Soloability , and ability to jump-and-play kind of feel.
