As a ranger learn how to kite. Kiting a mob is when you pull with bow, snare, run backwards while shooting, loot when dead.
This is no longer an option. As of LU#13, we can no longer shoot while moving.
As far as my suggestions for playing a ranger;
Always dual wield - a pair of fast weapons will give you more chances per fight to trigger poison procs. And imbued weapons will proc on their own for even more damage so having two of them is twice as good!
Always use poison - it's "free" damage, why would you ever want to kill a mob more slowly!
Keep your skills maxed - it's very important for you to always be "at your best". Along with this, always upgrade your new combat abilities to at least adept 1 level as soon as you can afford to. they always do much more damage than the training versions
Know your mob and pick your fights - since you can't heal yourself, you never want to take on mobs that hit harder and/or faster than you do.
IMHO - rangers are one of the most soloable sub-classes in the game. Post LU#13, they seem to do even better at it!
Welcome to EQ2 and good luck ranger!
