The recent post concerning the combat changes brought up the point that it's hard to help others.
If someone is in combat, you can't cast into the fray or even lob a heal onto the poor sap to help him out. Because of this, the culture that has been fostered is one of, "Since I can't help, I don't try."
And that's a bad thing.
I know that it's hard to complete many steps of a difficult quest, and there's always people in /ooc asking for members to help with this and that.
Here's what I do:
I zoned into Lavastorm to go knock out a writ, and saw a 43 Brigand hanging out at the shoreline. She was nervously looking around, knowing that one bad step would bring agro and death.
I was about to run into the tunnel to go to the writ area, stopped, and turned around. I asked her if she'd like to join me for some writ action inside.
She was more than happy to get the invite. I explained how I would pull and where it was safe, and we went inside. We spent the next 30 minutes killing everything in sight, and even though I was not able to get any exp (level 50) I knew she was. I purposely pulled ^^ mobs for extra loot and exp, and she used her Tracking to help me find my target writ mob. A 43 Assassin also showed up LFG so I scooped him up.
Well, if you've ever seen 3 DPS classes go at it against mobs, it's a wonderful sight. I not only used the pet to target mobs and keep agro, but I had to watch over my 2 party members, ensuring that I tossed a damage shield when they needed.
The Assassin needed a particular mob for a writ, so we wiped those also.
I purposely declined almost every loot that popped up, allowing the others a chance to get some cash.
Everyone was done, happy, and fat. We gave our celebratory gratz, thanks, good jobs, night. All told it took less than an hour.
There were no hand-outs, no PL'ing, no twinking. Just old fashioned help to someone that needed it.
And if nothing else, it was a seed. A seed of go-and-help-someone that may grow and flourish.
What do you do?
