Think of them as two different games.
EQ1 came out about 5 years ago and has gone through many expansions. The graphics are dated, but the information is well documented in many websites and databases.
EQ2 came out last November as a completly new game. It's basic story is that it takes place 500 years after a large upheaval in EQ1. So some of the names and races are the same, but a lot has changed. The graphics are cutting edge.
