EQ2 Server Downtime - Sunday, 8/7/05, 11PM PDT
Moorgard:
The EQ2 servers were brought down Sunday afternoon for an unscheduled update. Unfortunately the downtime ended up being around 2.5 hours, longer than was anticipated. We apologize for disrupting your weekend play.
As many have noticed, a dupe exploit surfaced that caused visible disruption in the economies of the servers. This bug has been fixed, and the offending accounts have been banned and their ill-gotten currency removed from the game.
The wealth rankings on EQ2Players will update automatically over the next couple days and should then be back to normal.
If you own an account that you feel was banned erroneously, please contact our customer service department for assistance. We cannot respond to account issues on the boards.
Again, we regret impacting your gameplay, especially on a weekend. We hope you understand that protecting the integrity of the game is a matter of great concern for us.
So I'm thinking that the afternoon downtime was to hot-patch a fix to the exploit and the 11PM downtime was to go back in and expunge all the money that was created.
Personally speaking, I'm glad they have the tools and that they, (SOE), are positioned and determined to protect the game.
