Hi Archaviass, Just thought id give u my 2 copper on your status.
- I also made the change from FFXI to EQ2. I changed because I was a dragoon and got no groups. No groups = no lvls = no fun
- When i got to eq2, i became a wood elf ranger, just like u want to be, and boy is he fun.
- As for a good server, i play on Mistmoore and i love it. Lots of nice people there. Cept some of the hardcore gamers w/out a soul. :)
- As mentioned before ranger pets just look pretty, not much more, but as you run away from battles, mobs will occasionally aggro them and ur home free.
- I understand your thought on the cost of arrows, especially since rangers were the most expensive job in FFXI. I have personally never run out of arrows. I have to actually stop summoning arrows because i take up too much inventory space :) At 38 i still use mostly carbonite arrows, but I also have a rip ability that yeilds a higher lvl arrow, but only one at a time.
- As for the arena, I personally feel rangers will not fare that well. In the splitpaw arena i have a hell of a time staying alive. Ranger abilities are meant to be used from behind or in stealth. Hard to do with all the hate on u. Taking that into thought, rangers dont solo to well either :(.
- The trump card us rangers have, however, is the ability to kite. There is an excellent guide on this site somwhere, and it has given me the ability to solo heroic encounters of my lvl. Can u say 1-2% per group solo :D
- Finally, I feel that u should look at all the classes before choosing ranger. Rangers rule, dont get me wrong, but i have equal amounts of fun on my healer and tank alts. Which is odd, because i have always been DPS on all the other MMORPG's that I play.
Switching from FFXI to EQ2 is the best decision u coulda made.
