I hit level 11 still making backpacks and elm boxes. I know that up to lvl 9, I'm an Artisan and can play at all the work stations. Do I have to leave the Wholesaler/Guild that I'm with and go elsewhere? Is there a better place I should be?
Better? I don't know if it's a better place to craft, but it sure is quieter! Anyway, as mentioned above, you can and should stay with your wholesaler but also join another society. About the only thing you can't do in the wholesaler is buy books for levels above 9... All books from 10 - 50 are sold in the "other" T/S instance. Maybe that's why you're still making rawhide backpacks and elm boxes when you could be doing so much more!!!

Did I forget to do something when I hit level 10? Was I supposed to go somewhere to someone and declare myself?
Since you've made it past lvl 10, you didn't forget to speak to anyone... If you had, you would be stuck at lvl 9, still banking XP but not progressing in level.
What you may have forgotten to do is upgrade your buffs to the tier 2 + durability sets. Depending on which path you chose, (outfitter, craftsman or scholar), you will have recieved a new set of 3 buffs for each option within that path.
These new buffs will let you maintain durability over the course of each combine. After you get a handle on using these new buffs, they will almost guarantee pristine every time!
So, needless to say, you should now be using both sets of buffs whenever crafting in any of the three disciplines within your chosen field of expertise.
