I hate to do it, but have to disagree with OBD on this one.
If you are already level 9, then run around one of the tier 1 zones, and collect all the fish and all the harvests you can get that are used for food.
You'll level pretty fast as a provisioner. Or just go buy the harvests off brokers, a lot of the stuff sells for a copper. Unfortunately tier 1 is a little less common on the vendors than tier 2 or 3.
But you'll be doing tier 2 stuff in no time.
Used to be sweet to be a provisioner, just go to Antonica, and swim in the moat around Qeynos, you'd get hundreds of fish in no time at all. Packet of spices, a fish, a fuel, and you're going to town!
There's 2 paths to skilling up on tradeskill items.
One school of thought is that you make one of each of the new items you get per level, and go to pristine with that (you get a bonus for the first time you make something pristine).
The other school of thought is to make a large quantity of a single item. More monotonous but possibly faster, IMHO, because you don't have to swap ingredients around (you know, buy 5 packets of spices, 3 sugar, 1 yeast, etc).
I find fish to be the easiest to skill up on, usually limited competition if you collect your own, and the recipe is basically the same for all levels - fish, packet of spice, fuel.
Provisioner is fun, in part because you don't need anything from other people, your product doesn't last long (so people have to buy more), and you are a great asset to your friends/guildmates.
People react tremendously well if you hand them a stack of food or drink that's green or better to them.
