Well that certainly isn't the way they sold the game.
It was sold as being able to progress via adventuring
or crafting. Many people don't like crafting much. The game should not expect you to want to craft - especially in the EQ2 crafting system. It is probably great fun for people who enjoy tradeskilling.
I always play my alts as a fairly close family and they wear each other's cast-offs when the senior members get better stuff. When my Shaman turned 20 he inherited some crafted chain from my ranger who had moved on to AQ stuff. This is now totally blocked to artificially promote a market in crafted items. It will not do so.
They seem to be continually tweaking the game because people are finding it more fun to play it their own way than the way SoE intended. This will only serve to drive people away.
