Hi, and welcome to the Hall of Innovation!
I am hoping this thread will become a place to post your ideas about how to make this game, or heck, any mmo better and more innovative.
We had a thread going a few weeks ago cooking up quests we'd like to see in EQ2, and that was a gas. If you have any more, I'd love to see them here.
Please feel free to comment in any way about "innovation" in mmo's - again, this one or any mmo you feel. You can tell us what you think might make EQ2 better, you can say how you thought such and such was a great feature in UO or AO, or whatever. New spell ideas, magic items you'd like to see, quest concepts, zone concepts, new classes, rule changes - it's all fair game here.
I'd just like to ask that we be nice to posters, in order to encourage a spirit of, well, innovation. I don't want anyone to be scared they are going to get unfairly ripped for taking a risk in here. I for one am going to do my utmost to put my normally cantankerous gnomishness aside and to be very nice.
If someone suggests an EQ2 rule change that seems really bad to you, here is a suggestion - rather than just cutting into them (which I have done - mea culpa!) - say something like "I know that idea appeals to you - but have you considered what to do if your idea ends up causing xyz problems..." ---- rather than "that's the stoooopidest idea I ever heard! It will cause rampant xyz!" Just a thought, anyway.
I know there are some "heavy hitters" lurking on these threads, but I don't want anyone to feel their idea isn't "big enough" to be posted here. Innovation comes in many different sized packages - please post it - big and small - your idea might spark something - you never know! Toward this end I'll be reading this thread off and on, and if I recognize someone posting whom I don't see posting often - I plan to rate you up - just to encourage folks not to feel shy about putting ideas here. Heck, maybe I'll rate up anyone who makes even a half-hearted attempt at innovation. And I'll defend you if someone tries to "troll" you.
Well, here is my first idea: armor sets. These were in Diablo II, and I never got to finish one (never got on line, so I could never buy the missing pieces - and they were quite rare). Anyway, some sets could be quested for, and some could be ultra rare drops. Maybe some require high faction. The idea would be that once you got several of the set, they'd give you an extra magic effect - and it gets better the more pieces you get. Like Thorzin's Velium Plate - five pieces total. Get 3 and you get a huge cold resist. Get 4 and you get a hit-point bonus. Get all 5 and you have a small cold-based Damage Shield at all times - that stacks with other DS's. Maybe you lose fire resistance to balance it a bit.
That's it. Do you have any innovations to show us????
