The point of attuning is so that you can do a quest if the reward is not something you can/want to use you can sell it to someone who does not want to bother with the quest, but once attuned it can't be reused. This is to keep the number of the item down and remove reuse which may impact other items.
Just wanted to point this out again.
For those that didn't play EQ1, attunable items were introduced there a while back. It was to cut down on the No Drop (No Trade, No Value in EQ2 speak) items, but still have some way to keep too many of said item from flooding the game.
