As noted this has nothing at all to do with EQ2. But it is a realization I had the other day, and it explains something that's been bugging me for some time ():
the Cartoon Network show "Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy".
My kids love it. And I must admit I find it perversely attractive... well, I actually like it, too. But I had no idea why - or even what the show was about - until the other day. And then I think I figured it out.
Why do the three boys go by what is basically the same name, but slightly altered? Was that just an empty marketing gimmick, or is there something more to it?
Well, I assumed at first it was just a shallow gimmick - but then in a radiant flash of insight I realized what is really going on: Freud! Sigmund Freakin' Freud!
The three Eds are the three Freudian counterparts of the SAME BOY. The self-centered, greedy one, Eddy, is the EGO. The physical, dumb, somewhat destructive one, Ed, is the ID. And the smart one with the conscience (but who is almost powerless to influence the others), Edd or "Double-D", is the SUPEREGO.
I know... on one level it's completely stupid and pointless. But ... is the inkblot two faces... or a vase? Squint through the other eye, and this concept suddenly becomes brilliant and gives the show meaning.
Okay, it's late at night. And I'm crazy. But I thought I'd share. And if this helps any of you, I'm glad I passed it along. It helps me sleep better at night knowing this.
