I havent read every post so I apologise if this has already been stated. At the character create screen, the image of the Froggie is greyed out making it unselectable - my guess is that when the Frogluks are unlocked the image will be selectable, which will remedy not knowing which server offers Frogloks, if indeed it it limited to certain servers.

I think the little buggers are kinda cute!

Probably will be unlocked in a later expansion, like they did in EQ1. Although why they didn't just make them available from the start, I wouldn't know. I mean, it's not like there's some sort of incentive to get to play a frog, bah. I would not buy an expansion just for that. In fact, i would never play a frog. They probably put them in the character screen to even out the blocks. *shrugs

Ok, I don't know if anyone saw this, but before the game came out, there was an interview with Christopher Lee. It also showed him recording some lines for De'Lere, and what he said was "Our explorers in the Feerrott have uncovered one of the great mysteries of the past, the temple of Cazic-Thule." Then a couple of line later came: "The Avatar of Fear holds sway over an army of frogloks". I have a feeling we need to defeat the Avatar of Fear to unlock them, unless they're just the evil frogs from Guk,

Frogloks are good so that wouldn't be it... I think that might be it I haven't heard of anyone defeating that quest yet...

Anybody can be turned to the dark side...lol...That is absolutely not a reference to SWG. Just because Froggies are suppose to be good does not mean that for some mystical reason they are under an evil control and we dont have to save them from a fate worse than death...mwahahaha...lol

Yeah, "holds sway" could mean that the Avatar of Fear is somehow controlling them.

Just pull them apart

That or SOE will save introducing Frogloks for an expansion where one will have to cough up t3h monies. I wouldn't put it past them.

I really don't think you can unlock the Frogs right now ><

Good news for everyone:

It's been confirmed, Froglocks have been unlocked on the Test server.

To me that says they weren't available from the beginning of the game. Take as you like, but expect some servers to unlock these lil buggers within the next month or less.

Hint I've heard: What comes first? Chicken or the Egg?

Don't get it but that was the hint I got. Enjoy.

Jobago, do you have a link or something that talks about it?
#164 Feb 03 2005 at 5:00 PM Rating: Decent
Ummm Just went to the official Everquest2.com website... Test server board and No one can make Froglocks there either. Soo it looks like the riddle is the point of the post, a wild goose chase.

Until I see a Link to a website that has where the quest starts, the level you need to be and what at least the first step of the quest is I do not think ANYONE has unlocked the froglocks.

First, I'd rather the people who do unlock them don't tell anyone else as that would completely defeat the purpose of the game. It's a big friggin riddle, and it's rewarding when you actually earn it yourself instead of someone just handing it to you. Should give it a whirl sometime.

I don't have a direct link but basically some dude on the EQ forums within the Quest section, posted an image of himself as a froglock with the name above it. So I searched every server and didn't find that name, and replied saying that he's full bs, knowing that the only server I can't search is test, and within 20 secconds of my reply he replied, saying just that.. well what server can you not search? so while I am still semi skeptic, he's the only one who's claimed to unlock to post a pic, have a logical comeback, andhave a hint. again, i dont know for sure, but it sounds legit. and it makes sense that test would be the first ones to discover this.

only for sure way to find out is to sign up on the test server, and see if froglocks are unlocked, cause once someone unlocks them, they are unlocked for the rest of the server. don't know how to sign up for that though.

********EDIT********

Found link to our conversation on eq2 boards

My name is Jobue on that board.

OK I want to believe that the Froglock quest has been solved I REALLY REALLY DO... However here is the problem.

Devs have stated quite plainly that the Froglock quest is a SERVER WIDE quest.

This person does not claim alliance to any guild AND according to the posts in the Test server area of the boards there are not many strong guilds on Test.

This Person also claims the quest is "EASY" this flies against what is being said by the Devs.

Plus the clue... what came first Chicken or the egg... That is an unanswerable question...

I agree, the chicken or the egg is an unanswerable riddle, however maybe its much simpler than you think in terms of a hint.. pure speculation, but maybe it's literal, as in there's a chicken somewhere u click on, then an egg.. blah blah blah.. i really don't know.. my only interest in this is being a part of the unlocking, or, if the quest is repeatable after it's done once, to try and do it myself.. don't really want a froglock character.

Also, maybe this dude's interpretation of easy is different then ours.. like maybe it's as simple as getting a huge group of people, killing an uber mob, then boom. they unlocked.. if you look at how in depth other missions are, maybe thats what he means.. like instead of being a mine 100 of this, talk this guy, kill this thing, find this item, bring back to original guy type of quest, it's "easier". maybe even he was saying, finding the quest was easy.. dont know again.

it could be a hoax, but id really like to hope that the devs didn't pull another jedi BS stunt.. although it is a smart marketing/sales tactic.

best best is to just try finding that dude who claimed and ask him all this stuff. im just guessing.

It Truely is a Hoax.

Fact:

Once Froglocks are unlocked on one server they will be presented as a character choice to all servers (Paraphrased from Faarwolf and Moorgard Posts)

Fact #2 the poster of the Photoshopped image plays on Steamfont mainly... If you look for all posts by that user you can find a "Hello" Style post stating they are a Scout Class on steamfont server.

Fact #3 The frog is the same one in the Castleview Magic shop.

Fact #4 Anyone can access the Test server, I did and the Froglocks were NOT an option in the character select screen.

This guy is feeding you and I and the rest of the world a line of Bull.

Thanks for going through all the that to confirm this.
To access test server was way too much a pain in the *** in terms of what you need to do. so if you actually did do all that.. then power to you.

good to know.. let the searching continue.

Is it me, or does unlocking frogloks as a playable race seem not really too important? Maybe I am just not too fond of the amphibious little squeekers. I think they could do us a favor and maybe unlock a different, more interesting race. Maybe a Half-Orc. <---- Make a good beserker. Or fairies (sp?) or something. But frogs ..come on..get more creative.

Several People share your view AaronXL... I am a fan of the Froglock race, I thought they were one of the more original Ideas that SOE had.

Personally I would have rather that the Ratonga (A new Race) be locked than one of the traditional races from EverQuest live. But I think some people are also interested in doing this quest for the status that it would give that group of players... Cause like them or hate them the people that unlock the froglocks will be widely known... At least for a while.

You are wrong. Refer to the the FAQ on races and classes. It clearly says "server-wide" quests, not "game-wide". Every server will have to complete the quest to unlock it. What you stated was not a fact, it was an incorrect assumption made by yourself. For the record, I have read every single post by moorgard on the pre-beta boards, on the beta boards, and on the post-release boards. And since you seem to care about Faarwolf's opinion, read this post.

When you paraphrase, you usually try to preserve the meaning of the original phrases.

ok this is just a guess. quite possibly the quest hasn't even been implemented yet, however noone has reached guild lv 30 yet. at 30 you can go get your writs from lucan and antoia themselves. I'm guessing they will implement this into a city task requiring tedious hours of raiding and access quest after access quest. thats what I expect of sony anyhow =)

Eular,

I am sorry that I left one piece out... they will be presented as a choice at the character creation screen BUT once created will be limited to the Servers that have unlocked them.

Since the character creation takes place in 3 phases and the LAST phase is the selection of servers it seems to me easier to implement a solution that has a filter on the 3rd step (Only allowing the created frog to go to a handfull of servers) then to say read through the DB of the current characters on that account and only allow creation of the Frog by a player who has a character on that server. Doing this any other way would negatively effect new players, having to make a character on one server just to exit out and remake a Froglock.

My bad for not including the last But statement in the original post, I thought it was implied. I did indeed preserve the meaning of the original phrases, inadvertantly leaving out something that I thought was an implied understanding by people that had been throught the character creation process does not mean that I removed the original meaning of the Original Phrases.
