May have already been discussed, but there is a Troll in Big Bend that seems to know quite a bit about the disappearance of the Frogloks as well as the destruction of Innothule swamp.

I felt the need to also defend the best Froglok out there, Glenn the Frog :P

For all that SOE has stated this will be a server wide event etc etc... Has anyone else noticed that you choose a Race PRIOR to choosing a server?

Does that not seem odd to anyone else? How do they know that the server you are going to has unlocked the frogs?

I don't even want to play the Frogloks. I mean.... <_< they're frogs. I like my Iksar, but I want to do the quest just to do it and ...perhaps there's some coin involved in reward as well as getting the race unlocked? Smiley: twocentsSmiley: drool2

Maybe it won't be based on server but on each character (or account).

I don't know if it makes a difference, but in the Froglok lore, it is mentioned that they drove the trolls out of Grobb and renamed it Gukta. Maybe there are more clues on unlocking them in Gukta/grobb. I would look further into it, but I'm still waiting no my CE copy. :(

I dont think so. The frogloks drove them out in EQ1, about 3 expansions ago. :)

If I'm not mistaken, when you first play, the storyline actually says that the trolls not only overan Innothule Swamp, but also Guk, and this forced frogloks to go deeper into hiding into Lower Guk (or something like that). So if Innothule Swamp was destroyed, but the island of Guk still remains, my guess would be they probably hid/locked themselves up underground. So either there is some type of hidden/trap door (or some quest to find a hidden/trap door).... OR... there is a hidden entrance underwater near Guk (or some type of quest to find a hidden entrance underwater near Guk). Just my 2 cents. :-)

my guess is that sony will come up with some crappy "extended premium" server *COUGHlegendsCOUGH* or some title no one wants to play *COUGHlordsofeqCOUGH* and give the froglocks to the people that purchase them.

either that or they aren't completely finished with the class yet and this is just a way to give themselves extra time to develop them.

we'll just have to keep driving. my guess is they are frozen in the hills somewhere in everfrost. =)

I realize this is not a popular perspective to voice, but I despise the Frogloks passionately, and had hoped to hae seen the last of them with EQ2. ((sigh)) That didnt happen. So, instead of bleabouring how much I revile those wretched failures of a PC race, and their dismal perpetuation of all Kermit name permutations, Ill contribute what I can, for those of you that do want to play them.

Toward the beginning of the Rallosian War, the Ogres, led by the Avatar of War and his Chosen General, laid waste to Innothule and devastated Guk. Unable to fight back the tide of the Rallosians, the Frogloks gathered their eggs and fled to the deepest reaches of Old Guk. ((whatever that means, suspect that has something to do with the Deepest Guk instances of LDoN, and that we'll likely have to buy yet another expansion simply to have access to it, if it all stays in the SOE tradition)) There, they sent their prayers to their Liberator, the god Mathaniel Marr. To their horror, the recieved only silence...

The Troll you were thinking of is red in color and located at the Torch in Big Bend. He never moves from that location, to my knowledge, and tells a story about how he escaped from Innothule as the very swamp burned and boiled. Evidently, his own family and children were not so fortunate. He seems to have more to say, but either the quest is broken ((likely)), or isnt finished being written yet((just as likely)), or is part of a future expansion costing you another 50$ ((most likely of all))

There are a few other NPC's I've encountered while exploring, but none of them seemed to have as much to say on the subject as the troll did.

I'll see if I can track that Froglok mentioned in an earlier post down, and see if I can wheedle any more information out of them about it. I may hate the frogloks and consider them the second worse thing to ever happen to EQ, but a quest is a quest, and if y'all wanna play em, well, let's get you there then.

Good luck.

What is the worst thing that happend to EQ in your mind?
#117 Dec 01 2004 at 12:13 PM Rating: Good
Ok here is what I've noticed.

Troll in Big Bend states things about his old homeland, boiling mud, hot. In the intro you was given a direct clue also, Frogs got pushed into Guk. Which now also holds and ancient evil. Then you also get to see Nagies layer empty, thats an ancient evil, god knows how old this boy is. Now again Vox is missing to, so is it not possible that once again these two dragons have made the number one most saught after kills list for the starter game? EQ1, lore and stories pointed you to face these two old dragons, once lovers but entombed and seperated for the mixing of breeds. You had to face them and in turn later on they held key parts to several Epic quests. Now in EQ2 its already staged to have a sever wide Epic quest, to unlock the frogs. These two old dragons are missing, the swamps hot and boiling mud is reported to be there. This to me seems as if Nagy has taken up in Guk, forced the undead frogs to serve him, and now holds the frogloks captive in the very place they fled to. But again, no map shows guk on it. Feerott seems the likely place as its remote jungle and water ways could very easly be the resting place of the Innothule Swamp and Guk. But also what of Cazic and the Creatures that Cazic thule placed there? I know the gods have vanished, but what of thier followers? Is it not possible also now that I think about it, that the ancient Evil could very well be the lord of fear himself? Cazic Thule posed with fear itself fleeing the planes to seek refuge in the Underwold of Guk? I would not put this past him, as he was a coward even when in his own Plane of Fear. He hid behind his Amygodian Knights, and his 3 Golem's.

Anyhow thats just a tid bit of info I've thought about. I mean Magic was gifted to all races through devoted blessings of the gods each served. Without the gods, the magic would dwendle, yet it hasn't. Instead it seems to have grown in power. So expect to unlock the planer regions soon after you unlock the frogs. Seems they are almost the key to unlocking most of the struggles of the last 500 years, so might want to carefully think it out before we just rush out and free the frogs. Less we unlock so many more evils into the land again, and start the worlds second demise...

the only issue with assuming that the frogloks that ask about their missing kin and their homeland has something to do with this is that, so far, i've also seen npc members of nearly every other race doing the same. "have you heard anything about misty thicket? i so loved mucking about there" and "have you heard anything from my sister? when last i saw her she was in rivervale, but i havent heard from here" and such.

could be a smokescreen, or it could mean this isn't the direction to take it. the troll does sound promising, though.

For what it's worth, I saw a player hopping around the other day when I was in the Commonlands. I hailed him, but he kept hopping along. I was in the middle of a fight or I would have tracked him down. I'm a 15th lvl Sorcerer and was getting my a$$ kicked at the time so I had many things to worry about. Still, I was surprised! I'm not 100% sure it was a player and not an NPC, but I have searched over and over in the Commonlands since, and have not found any froggie NPCs.

Regardless, I am not aware of any GM hosted event that occured on the Kithicor server (which is where this happened) so I'm thinking it's a quest-based unlocking. Also, Frogloks are not unlocked for me which also leads me to believe it is a quest-based lock/unlock. I'm guessing that if you solve the riddle you get an account flag on your account and you can play a froglok on any server. The way they can explain it is that when froggies start popping (or hopping) up all around, they basically escaped from whereever it is they've been hiding. Or something like that.

Anyway, thought I just let you all know there was a frog sighting!

Just a thought...

they did retreat into lower guk 500 years ago. But when the war was over couldn't they have come out? Also I doubt their on luclin but there's a 2nd moon now...

Also the description says their in trouble and need our help to unlock them...

LAST but not LEAST. FROGLOCKS WE'RE PIMP *** TOONS in the beta so I know SOE's not trying to hide them.

The anti-froglock racism that exists in this thread is absolutely shocking. How can the mods allow it?

I'm not racist to Frogs... i hate everyone else equally. =p

Seeriuosly though making froglocks an unlockable race is dumb. I for one wouldnt waste time on bringing a froggie up to lvl of my current character, unless for some strange reason they are a God Like Race... which would then just throw off the game balance.

You know, I hear stuff about how cool it is to be a Dark Elf in Qeynos and all... but to be a Froglok in Freeport would be hilarious, especially to walk around Big Bend and talk crap to all the Trolls :P
